Topic: Denver, CO Bellco Theatre April 23, 2013

I finally made it out to the forum this morning and was shocked to see there were no show reviews from Denver last night yet.  So, I am happy to get the topic going.

The show was all around fantastic as you would all expect!!  I was lucky enough to be added to the meet and greet with Joe before the show.  Joe was in a great mood at the meet and greet.  He was joking with us about the fact that there was a Mexican restaurant in the lobby of the theatre where the meet and greet was held.  He said that is the first time he has ever seen that and he was sure that with 4500 plus people attending the show there has to eb at least 20 who are thinking they need to have some tacos.  The meet and greet was very well organized.  Joe, as usual, took time to talk to and connect with everyone who was participating.  You could have up to 3 items signed per person and his tour manager Clay was there to take photos for everyone.  The line moved quickly and efficiently with everyone I witnessed getting great time and interraction with Joe.  It was tremendous to get to talk to Joe for a few minutes and to let him know how much his music and playing means to me.  My Father in law who was with me told Joe what a fan he is of the song Driving Towards the Daylight.  Joe took the time to explain to him the process around writing that song and specifically that he began writing that song 10 years ago and that it finally just completed itself.

As for the show itself, Joe and the band sounded fantastic.  The Bellco theatre was a very nice venue for Joe and the sound was fantastic where we were.  (12th row just off center).  I apologize to all of you as I am not a good person to do the setlist.  I tend to get lost in the music/show.  Hopefully someone else was keeping track.  I will say it was a very similar setlist to the other shows.  If I remember correctly it was 5 acoustic tunes and then immediately into the full band set with no break at all.  The total show time was 2 hours and 20 minutes including the encores.  The encore was 1 difference.  Joe talked about how he got into trouble by ommiting Sloe Gin form the setlist in Phoenix as he thought people felt he had played it enough.  He indicated this was apparantly a giant mistake and he would never make it again.  So, it was added into the encore along with Just Got Paid.  One of the funny moments of the evening was when Joe indicated he got into trouble someone from the audience yelled did he get a speeding ticket?  Joe commented by saying how would I get a speeding ticket...I don't even own an F-ing car in Denver.  Pretty funny.  Lots of comments from Joe about the change in weather from Phoenix being 95 degrees and Denver being in the 30's with 6 inches of snow and slush.  Probably the coolest thing for those of us in Denver was the fact that Joe mentioned several times that the Denver show with over 4500 attendees is the single largest gathering of humanoids ever for a Joe  Bonamassa show in the US.  He talked about it several times, how much that means to him, and how he would never forget that evening and it would forever endear Denver to him.  Pretty cool to be part of that.  Joe even paused to take pics of the audience with his camera and had his guitar tech behind the band taking pics as well.

For the guitarists on the forum like myself, Joe used an arsenal of guitars last night.  I kind of lost track to be honest.  In general I noticed 5 different Les Pauls, a regular MusicMan, a double neck MusicMan, 2 Firebirds, and a 335.  Not to mention a couple different acoustics for that set.

It was an amazing night all around and I feel so blessed to have been part of it.  Big thanks to Joe and the band for continuing to do what they do so well and for a terrific night all around that I will not forget.  5th Bonamassa show for me dating back to 2005 and he just continues to amaze me every time.  Hoping we get to do it again in Denver very soon.

Re: Denver, CO Bellco Theatre April 23, 2013

Konkman, thanks for being the first to post a review.  Joe tweeted a photo of the crowd.  So cool.   He just gets better doesn't he.  One of the things I love about him is that he is so happy when he plays.  Glad that you got to meet him and that it was such a stellar show.  As you know,Joe is the best there is.

Re: Denver, CO Bellco Theatre April 23, 2013

Very nice review Konkman. Glad to hear a report from snowy Denver. That is too funny about Sloe Gin.  Cool that you got in the meet and greet, Joe is one heck of a guy for sure.

Re: Denver, CO Bellco Theatre April 23, 2013

Konkman , thanks for the awesome review of the Denver show. I live in Lake Geneva Wisconsin and will be driving up to Minneapolis tommorow for the show on Friday at the State Theatre ( SOLD OUT ) . The State is a grand old theatre that is perfectly suited for Joe and all his beautiful guitars . I am takeing my daughter and son in law to the show. It will be their first Bonamassa show . We have super seats in the far Left Loge 2nd row. The part of the loge that wraps around and will put us even with about the 8th row but elevated . I have always sat in the first three rows  floor level at Joe's shows and it's been phenominal . So I am really stoked to get a little different perspective from up above. I have met Joe too and he is just a regular guy that happens to be really good at something many of us would love to do. I am 64 years young and I remember the first show I saw was  at the Chicago Theatre in May 2012 ( SOLD OUT ) . I had time to adjust my attitude just before going in ( all natural ) LOL .  Walked in sat down , lights went down Bang , Slow Train .  I was blown away in more ways than one.  This band this singer/player is getting better everytime I see them . Joe is rideing some kind of wave right now , its clicking in every gear. I think he is confident and loves every minuet he is on stage and so do we. After the Minneapolis show I will be driving to Rockford Il. to the Coranado Theatre . Its another classic ornate theatre  perfect for a Bonamassa guitar show. It's almost SOLD OUT and prolly will be by April 30 . Well thats my rant for the day , I get stoked for these shows . Thats good for an old geezer like me .  By the way Im in the First row far left for the Rockford show.  Yeah baby .

Cool. I am the one that started the Phoenix complaint. I am THRILLED that Joe listen's to his fans. How many stars do that ? I'll bet not many. He must be a real man to listen. Can't wait to see another show.

Forgot to add THANKS JOE !!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry.

Re: Denver, CO Bellco Theatre April 23, 2013

Thanks for the review I knew several in the audience but have not heard from them yet. So you were the trouble maker Dottie. wink I have learned over the years to trust Joe with the set lists. He did say it is the most requested song he gets at Meet and Greets.

Re: Denver, CO Bellco Theatre April 23, 2013

Great review.

I was there 6 rows back and off center.  I had read reviews that the Bellco Theater was known for not having the best sound.  From where I sat, I would say the sound was great!!!

This is the 3rd time in three years for me to see him.  Albuquerque, Denver (met him casually by his bus after the show), and Denver (last night)

I will say for me it was his best show out of the three.  Maybe Joe is more comfortable with the fame he has acquired from his efforts and very hard work.

Just inspiring....

Public apology.  Sorry I whined.  Not you, me.  I got out of whack (or back in) about the ruckus over the Phoenix Sloe Gin pretermission debacle.  After the acoustic version in Vienna, where I got connected (and became immediately hooked) to somewhere else with the amazing, stunning, gorgeously brilliant historical performance...I hope Joe Bonamassa would at least consider alternating between the acoustic and electric versions, although I just don't know if the Royal Albert Hall version of Sloe Gin can be be topped either.  Different renditions of sublime surrealism of him singing Sloe Gin.

Konkman, I don't beg for reviews anymore (as much roll), so thank-you for the initiative and the great resulting review! wink  That 4,500+ has some close competition with shows in MoJoeHio, New York, Maryland (although there probably were over 4,500 at the 2009 Hot August Blues Festival, that was a festival and some had come to see other acts as well, and certainly more were present at the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago, where I swear I heard about 5,000 people say they came JUST to see Joe tongue).

I was in the 21st row and the sound was great there too.  Second time I've seen Joe and I have been a huge fan since discovering him about 4 years ago.  His concerts are phenomenal, each one better than the last, and I hope I never ever miss one!  And he truly seems to like Denver, slush and all.  I only wish he would play where we're not expected to stay seated.  With the energy coming off that stage from all 4 superb musicians I really want to be on my feet!  Last year at the Paramount, I tried to stand in the aisle and was gently encouraged to find my seat, and at the Bellco I didn't see many people dancing either.
Since you were in the 6th row and since you've met him, can I have your autograpy?

Re: Denver, CO Bellco Theatre April 23, 2013

First time posting/replying.

Although I'm a newbie JB fan as of last year (saw Black Country Communion on AXSTV) I'm now a freak for his music and can't get enough. Both my home and van systems are on repeat of Joe's cds. Shortly after seeing the Black Country Communion live show on tv I was sad to learn they had parted ways, so I searched out that fantastic guitar player from the band and now find myself 100% addicted to JB's music.

I'm wheelchair bound and have a limited income so I started to save every penny I could to purchase a ticket for Joe's Denver show scheduled for April 24th, 2013 at the Bellco Theater which just happened to be the exact date he was last in Denver on April 24th, 2012 at the Paramount Theater. I even borrowed the last few dollars from my daughter to get my handicapped ticket but when I called the Bellco Theater for accessible seating the young lady said "sorry, those seats are all sold out". Wha, wha, WHAT! Yep, SOLD OUT! I was so bummed as I had my heart set on seeing what I consider one of the best if not the best blues guitarist musician touring today. Four days later I was broadsided in my handicapped van and ended up in the hospital for 32 days with three busted ribs and torn muscles in my neck. I thought my whole life went down the tubes that week. But I've battled back with many hours of extensive physical therapy and nothing will stop from seeing JB the next time he comes to Denver. I see his fall schedule is out and it looks like it will be awhile so in the meantime it's JB tunes 24-7 wherever I go.

Wow, peg, what a story.  So sorry for you about all this - the gremlins were certainly after you!  Best of luck in your continued recovery from the accident.  Keep it up, champ!

Glad you found us here.  Stick around and join in with all us Bonamaniacs!  You will enjoy it, guaranteed.

One thing we have all learned (usually the hard way) about Joe tickets, you have to log in/call the minute they become available.  Good for Joe they get sucked up immediately any more, but we have to be quick on the draw.  The Forum here will release pre-sale codes which will get you into the purchase before the general public.  In the meantime, guard that saved roll of cash for next time!

We're all rooting for you - let us know what happens.  And welcome again!
