Topic: Gary Moore Signature Les Paul Standard

http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/ … d-574313/1

I don't know how I feel about it. They say it is supposed to be tribute to the Peter Green/GM '59... but to better showcase the top, they didn't include binding or a pickguard. I'm not sure how they consider it a Standard when it doesn't come with all the Standard features... looks like an overpriced (MSPR $3528) LP Studio to me.

Oh, it also uses Granadillo instead of Rosewood.

Apart from a few cosmetics it's not exactly dissimilar to a JBLP...

Re: Gary Moore Signature Les Paul Standard

Ugh.  I really have no idea what Gibson marketing is thinking sometimes... it's almost like they have gone back to the strange choices of the Norlin years.  Yes that is a cool looking guitar, but if you are going to put an artist's name on something, and it is supposed to be like what said artist played, why skimp on details?

Re: Gary Moore Signature Les Paul Standard

It is similar to the JBLP studio... I'm sure it's a nice guitar both in playing and sound, but why try to pass it off as something that its not? I'm assuming that street value will be $2000-$2500... I have to say I wouldn't spend a penny more than $1500, and that's only because its got a nice top.

Re: Gary Moore Signature Les Paul Standard

It's got me looking at Lemonburst R9's though. Pretty. Bummer I can't afford one!

Re: Gary Moore Signature Les Paul Standard

I'll be working several jobs this upcoming summer to save money for a move down to Nashville so I can be closer to the music industry... aside from the strat I'm building right now, no more other projects for me until I get established down there... total bummer, growing up sucks. Someday I'll have an R9 or two though.

Re: Gary Moore Signature Les Paul Standard

Shame on Gibson. It looks really nice without the binding, but the price should reflect the lack of that and rosewood. Gary deserves better.

Re: Gary Moore Signature Les Paul Standard

I don't understand why it doesn't have binding! If you're gonna make a 'replica' or 'signature model' then it should look like the original!

Re: Gary Moore Signature Les Paul Standard

Stop calling it a Studio!  It is a Standard without binding (just like the 2000-2002 original signature model).  This is how Gary himself spec'd his Standard based signature model.  He wanted it to be inspired by his '59 rather than a replica.  It's how HE wanted it.  Studios are thinner and usually have lower graded wood.  This is the a full thickness Grade AA/A Standard.  I too am not sure how I feel about the fretboard material - although far better than baked maple.
