Topic: Muse

I can't believe that this band does not have a thread.  I first heard there music on Palladia a few years ago.....and was blown away by some concert in France..i think....anyway ......saw them in NJ Friday.....and they were phenomenal!!!  I have read in many places that they are the "greatest live act" bla bla bla......and ya know what....they are tremendous!!!!  My eclectic tastes have me loving Rush and Joe Bonamassa!!!! not much in common!!!! except an energizing flow of note's and chords!!!   Tix are in hand for Muse's Philadelphia show in September!!!! funny i was having a conversation with a friend.......apparently Muse is HUGE in Europe.....selling out stadiums....yet they have no stadium gig in the USA.....and i said funny Joe can fill and arena in the UK....but not yet in the USA.......oh well......hard to believe the Meadowlands packs Giants Stadium (AKA Met Life Stadium) for Springsteen and Bon Jovi......pure rubish if ya ask me!!! and i am a New Jersey boy!!!! LOL!!!!

Re: Muse

I hear you!  Muse have quickly become one of my favourite bands EVER but I only got into them about a year ago.  I'm currently playing Black Holes & Revelations to death.  Did you see them on TV at the Olympic Games opener?  Such energy and Matt Bellamy is sheer genius.

Re: Muse

I've watched Matt, Chris and Dominic grow as a band, right from first hearing Showbiz when it came out. Some folk dissed them as a "Radiohead-lite", but frontmen like Matt Bellamy don't come round that often in life. Even though I'm a huge fan of their stuff, I've not mentioned it on here before as I just don't know where you'd even start to catagorise them - Rush with bombast? All I know is, these three Devonshire lad go out there and give it everything, without fear.

I don't know if they'd get the acclaim in the USA that they do this side of the Atlantic, some bands don't, but I know one thing, they'll give it everything and you're in for one almighty show if you go along.

Re: Muse

Sshhh Muse are young people, don't mention such a thing around here wink

Matt is a very clever guy, son of an astronomer, some interesting clips of them on YouTube as real kids doing their "Battle of the Bands" competition when they started out.. Also look out for a European kids TV style of show they did when they had to mime, -so Matt swapped place with the drummer, - who incidentally is a leftie and plays in a very strange way but sounds great.

Yes they headline Glastonbury and sell out Wembley Arena (football stadium), they are massive here in the UK, - but that is because they have a very large youth following, - my son has covered a couple of their songs "Hysteria", "Starlight" and "Knights of Cydonia"

Re: Muse

Ah! MUSE! we went on Saturday - The Emirates Stadium - London.
Our first MUSE gig - and they didn't disappoint, WOW, what a gig! The stadium was packed - and not only with 'young people' we thought the average age of the audience was around 40 ish - we had ground G/A tix - and managed to stand in a spot a 1/3 of the way back from the main stage.
Their light show and the pyrotechnics  were second to none, 10 out of 10 - the sound system at times let the show down at times.
Would we go again ? HELL YES!!

Re: Muse

I listened to a few clips on Youtube over the last couple years, as a lot of people talk about them, but nothing really clicked with me.  Care to share some of your favorite links?  Everyone speaks so highly of them, I feel like I must be missing something.

Re: Muse

A colleague at work took his son to see them on Saturday night and said that even though they were sitting in the gods he could feel the heat from the pyrotechnics at the start so goodness knows how many eyebrows were singed off that night!  Apparently the local police force were getting phone calls from worried residents thinking that the Emirates stadium was on fire.  The police calmly informed them that there was nothing to worry about, it was just Muse putting on their stage show smile

HA HA that is too funny.

Brack, do you still have your eyebrows?  Or just 2 charcoal marks on your forehead now wink

Hey ZeyerGTR

this is one of my favorite MUSE songs.  I love the lyrics of this song. Goes very well with the music.

Re: Muse

I remember Joe tweeting something along the lines of ' Muse, one the biggest bands in the world yet unheard of in the USA'. Funny how that can happen.
Muse are awesome, live shows are incredible. A band that delivers and has a technical show that matches Pink Floyd. Matt is a very underrated guitarist.
Muse are as big as any band in Europe. Filling our biggest stadiums:)

Lol ! Yes Cat, the heat that came off the large 5 flame throwers above the stage was immense! - even though  we were standing a third of the way back. Each short burst - the heat just hit you in the face! Their stage show must of taken some planning - had to be a one-off - there was so much going on - but what a show .... WoW!

Here's one of the stand-out moments - Blackout - with a giant floating lightbulb + .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNsTooMjr18 - it was a sight!

Re: Muse

My sons turned me on to Muse before they moved off to college. They kinda' lost interest in their newer material after the Hysteria era, saying it sounded too Queen-like or something like that.

Anyway, I think they are a HUGE talent, but haven't followed any of their new stuff. This post has prompted me to research what I've been missing. Its refreshing to see a big act like this doing well when they actually have talent!! wink

Never much liked them after the Hysteria video which was a blatant rip-off of (homage to?) to movie of The Wall. But maybe Ill give them a second chance after this thread.

Re: Muse

After our (first) experience of a live MUSE gig - i would urge anyone to go see em' live - i promise, you'll not be disappointed.

Re: Muse

Muse never caught my until my son ask me to take him to a gig. My god what a band and show. Best lighting show since Floyd at Earls Court. The band is incredible, and as mentioned before a very underated guitarist with incredible vocals. Top band, top show.

The track - Uprising - reminds me of the Doctor Who's theme tune. Those who know the the TV show will know what i mean .
