I gotta agree....That "John Henry" in Portland WAS indeed EPIC !!......and Kent was pretty sure that was the amps he was smellin'....hmmm...Well....BOTH great shows ! The northwest was treated again with the best Joe has to offer ....and don't even get me started on the band he's created !!

Cal.), line up 20 or so fans who are crazy enough to do it, and have a few $$ to spend; set it up with Amtrak or BNSF Railway;  and presto - you have a "JB Special" car that runs to 3 or 4 or 5 of the shows while loaded with fans!  We would have "Slow Train" blasting every time we pulled away from a stop big_smile  A fantasy I guess, but it is fun to daydream...

Hah hah!  Pretty funny, murfdog - if that was you just to the right of us (I was in  seat 203 and Laurie in 204), you were right with your comments: it was hard to think of a better way to be spending a Monday night!

Dude, The smell was long before the fog machine came on. He had those babies hummin', as it was louder than Portland w/ out the board influence. I've been playin' for over 30 years and used to work for Ted Nugent. Trust me, I know the smell of hot tubes. The fan keepin' things cool was blowin' it right at us.

We were in Row A, Murfdog, sounds like you were in front of us in the  3 or 4 orchestra pit rows.   I think I do recall a leather jacket in 202 and a gal with a white shirt in 201, in the very front row?

That smoke definitely was the acrid stuff from burnt electrical gear.   I never did hear an explanatoin for what it was; we got seated about 7:40 and the stage crew etc. all looked relaxed and "no big deal" about things, so whatever it was must not have been mission-critical.     I sure as hell would not want a smoke/fog machine that cranked out smoke that was that realistic!

Yeah, It's a normal smell for amps that have been on since before the soundcheck hours earlier. Nothing was fried so to speak and everything WAS fine. Most stage set ups will have a small fan or 2 circulating airflow around gear, etc. The invisable whaft just happened to be mildly constant in our direction face level w/ the stage. The fog thing and lightshow that came later on was it's own seperate thing. Tubes eventually need to be changed or "Blow", but it's normal occurance and Guitar Techs have spare new ones if the need be for a new one or more. But one usually gets some pretty good milage out of them. You guys almost had me looking for a hidden fog machine somewhere inside my Twin Reverb. The last amp I saw "Blow" was Randy Hansen's at Lefty's in Salem. I was about 5 ft. away sitting next to his Guitar rack. He had 2 full 1967 Marshall stacks (which was at least 1 too many for this tiny joint), so instaed of doing a quick fix, he just played through th one...which was PLENTY! That smell is a normal one to a various degree and was Lynard Skynard approved.

I was going by what Mick Hickey told me. I was at sound check and everything was fine, I left for a bit to get a guitar and when I came back, there was the "aroma", I was a little concerned, smelled like burning wire or something. When Mike got a break I asked him about it and he said it was the fog machine. That's all I know, except, I had a wonderful time in Eugene!!!
I have tube guitar amps and tubed audio equipment, if I smelled that in my house I would PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the fog machine runs out of water, it gets real hot. Maybe that was it.
