Topic: Seattle April 12 @ Paramount Theater

It was a rainy night in Seattle, but one heck of a show for Joe and the crew. Joe was recovering from a flu, but still played like a trooper (Over 2 hours!). The show was sold out (of course). I didn't make note of the complete set list, but here's a few of the songs we were treated to. I only wish I could sing as well as Joe. Even when he has the flu, that fella doesn't miss a note.

  • Seagull - One of my personal favorite cover tunes by Joe.
Jockey Full of Bourbon - Awesome trio with that old timey piano and Tal on congas. Brilliant.
Woke up Dreaming - Excellent rendition and Joe didn't miss a note.
Slow Train - Oh my you could feel the train coming and this rendition is one for the books.
Dislocated Boy - Loud and proud, it vibrated the whole theater and dislocated a few folks I'm sure.
The Ballad of John Henry - Need I say more?
Driving Towards the Daylight - Nice rendition, I believe Joe played it on a goldtop.
Slow Gin - By special "request" from a local Seattle guy who caught Joe at at a nearby Starbucks, Joe put it in the show. Always listening to his fans.
Asking Around for You - Yep, haven't heard this one played in ages. Very emotional rendition.

Other cool stuff:

  • Drum Solo by Tal - I could feel it in my bones.
Joe & Arlin - Trading licks on guitar and keys.
Theremin - Joe had it howling for a couple of tunes. I want one of these things real bad.

All in all, excellent show. Thanks Joe! You are welcome in Seattle anytime!

Couple added thoughts:

  • This was my first time getting to see Joe live. Yes, he really does sound as good as his recordings. Very inspirational and tells me I need to put my nose to the stone and practice more.

  • How the heck do you keep all those lyrics for Jockey Full of Bourbon in your head Joe? It's an awesome story but I can't seem to remember all the lyrics no matter how hard I try!

Re: Seattle April 12 @ Paramount Theater

Kudos to Joe for not using a TelePrompTer.

I fully agree with the OP. The biggest surprise for me was that the keyboards were not just background filler like previous shows. Arlan was INCREDIBLE and during "John Henry", I swear his featured organ playing gave me a Deep Purple flashback. The only minor disappointment was Joe not playing "Mountain Time", my wife's favorite song. "Asking Around For You" as the first encore made up for it though. All in all, everyone in our party thought the show was AWESOME!!!!! Can't wait till next time.

I was thinking Deep Purple as well! I am very pleased with Arlin. Wish I could find a keyboard player like that for my band!!!!

Re: Seattle April 12 @ Paramount Theater

Arlan came close to stealing the show...if not for Joe's sheer hugeness of presence...LOL

OP--where do you go to hear, and maybe play a little blues?

BB

Life is too short to live with bad tone!

Re: Seattle April 12 @ Paramount Theater

This was an excellent show!  Have seen Joe a number of times and have always enjoyed them.  Only negatives that my wife and I had were the seats had less legroom then airplanes do and ya gotta get real annoyed with all the folks coming late and messing with the view sad

Oh, i do wish he had had Beth there to sing a song or two smile

Well I live up in Snohomish and we have blues pretty much 7 days a week near me. I play at the Sultan Log Jam every Monday, the 907 in Snohomish on Tuesday and Madison Pub in Everett on Wednesday. If you drive up north to Snohomish County we have several blues jams every day of the week.

Just was wondering if there are any videos from Portland or Seattle  ?  I have tickets for Minneapolis April 26 and Rockford April 30. Joe's shows are the greatest and Im really stoked about seeing him again. There are videos from Europe and England , where are the videos from his return to the U.S.A. ?

I took a little roadtrip starting in Seattle ending in Eugene. Waiting for some video of TBOJH which is an awesome spectacle now with Arlen's solo and Joe's totally different solo too. Great new arrangement. Got it again in Portland too but had packed light and didn't bring a video camera. sad

I have seen your video Rick and the one now from Vancouver it seems that every solo is different from Arlen. The Seattle solo was Deep Purple on Steroids. In Portland much more subtle. Arlen is a force to be reckoned with.
