I am the designated driver for Sunday Ian. Were there 2 support bands and what time did Rival Sons come on? To quote my sister after the London show "they were absolutely stunning".

you will really enjoy this gig guys, - and excuse me referring to money but 3 good bands for £15 was best value for money this year!

First band up were The Graveltones: http://www.thegraveltones.com who were brilliant - and for my son who also plays guitar with just a drummer it was great for him to see how much could be done musically with this setup. The drummer is a real powerhouse and the guitarist/singer is somewhat extravert in his approach but really belts it out.

Ulysses :http://www.facebook.com/ulyssesgb - They were somewhat quirky and I would say they have probably listened to a few too many Beatles records as there were many similar riffs in there! But they had something about them that you could see needed development (which of course is exactly what they are doing by supporting bands like RS's). Their last number was great, - but for me some of their others songs were a bit complex to just "get" on their first hearing.

Thanks for that Ian. Will make an effort to see the supports. Although I have seen 3 brilliant gigs by Rival Sons so far, I am expecting this one to be even better. The original venue was a 300 capacity, it's now 1,500. I have a feeling it's gonna be very busy.

Re: My Next Concert (s)

I can finally say my next concert is .... Joe!  Sacramento on Wednesday, with M&G.

Last night was a great warmup, with Carl Palmer's ELP legacy.  I was skeptical that Keith Emerson could be translated to guitar, and the only real attraction was CP himself. I was very wrong. It was fun from start to finish with great guitar and bass. Opening was Tom Griesraber, an awesome Chapman Stick player.

Re: My Next Concert (s)

ELP was one of my childhood friends favorites. Saw them many times.

College favorite of mine, but only got to see them once. Great festival lineup... Cactus, Edgar Winter, ELP, Humble Pie, J Geils, Faces with Rod Stewart, and the headliner, lol...Three Dog Night. Was supposed to have Badfinger and Black Sabbath, but I dont think they showed up.  Pocono Raceway July 8 1972. ELP didnt come on till about 3 am, and as I recall one of the girls I was with had to leave after that, and I missed Humble Pie...something that happened to me several times. I was jinxed with that band!

For some reason Carl Palmer didnt remember where he was that night when I asked him wink.   He's as good if not better than ever.

All those bands, excepting Three Dog Night (but, do remember, they WERE huge back then), Badfinger, Humble Pie, and Black Sabbath had all played the infamous Mar Y Sol festival in Puerto Rico during Easter.  Not that I attended, I was just a little kid (sigh, just like Woodstock, just like Summer Jam in my home state, and California Jam I-I made it to Cal Jam II when a big boy smile).

ELP released their set, it had 20+minutes of "Tarkus" and much of Pictures At An Exhibition included, but a truncated "Take A Pebble" (that Greg Lake sings flat at the end of).  And Carl solos 8+ minutes on "Rondo" to boot.
