Topic: Steve Lukather Islington 29/3/2013

Steve laid on a blistering set on Friday. In this clip he jokes about Joe taking the night off to come to his show. Great player!
Made some new friends who were in London for Steve's show and a musical and tried to get tickets for Joe's show at the RAH at the last minute from the box office and scored two great seats just in front of the sound board. Good to meet you Dave and Val!

Blistering set indeed Geoff. Especially starting with Judgement Day. And how exquisite was his version of Jeff Beck's The Pump? Amazing band behind him.

Yes indeed Kenny. Sorry we didn't get to hook up on the Friday night. I was at the front and needed to be there to video some stuff, which I'll post on here and FB when I get a chance. It's been a bit hectic since the RAH show. Roy (Bluesman) came up to Liverpool so we spent the whole of Monday giving him the Royal tour. LOL. It's been so great to welcome all the Bonafriends from the US and Europe (and Scotland). Joe's music has bonded many good friendships, old and new!

Re: Steve Lukather Islington 29/3/2013

Unfortunately Steve's management have asked for my vids to be taken down because "Steve was unhappy with the sound that night" Well, he must be unhappy with the sound every night, because his management remove all fan videos from You Tube. So grab a view before I take it down.

A further comment from them reads ..

"Steve does not appreciate the copyright infringement (stealing as he calls it) nor the unauthorized postings. He, and most artists, spend a lot of energy and money creating live DVDs for their fans with the quality of the sound, lighting, camerawork, etc. very high.

What Bonamassa, Phish, the various Dead off-shoots, etc. do is their thing; Lukather and many of the others chose NOT to go that route. I get hired by the artists in the latter category to enforce.

Thanks for your understanding."

Seems very short sighted to me. Social Networking is now an accepted promotional tool when used properly, as J&R have done over the years. It certainly hasn't stopped me buying CD's, DVD's and going to concerts - quite the opposite!

Maybe Joe should have a word in his ear, as they are close buddies!

Thanks Geoff for letting us grab a view before you have to take it down.

It's too bad, because I really loved how he told a story about the song and it's creation.
It's a great video and at least you will have it smile

I am in agreement with you, because your video highlights how wonderful his playing is and I really liked his band.  Especially the drummer.

I know if it wasn't for YouTube, I wouldn't have discovered certain artists and got the CD, DVD or went to the concert.

Kudos to the ones who do, because your fans really enjoy it smile

How the hell do you do that? Didn't think it was possible?

Lots of freeware out there that does it. Just do a search for "youtube download" CNet is a good source of vetted freeware since a lot of the search results will deliver crud and caution must be excercised I use "YTD" available there. (the download function is amazingly fast- typically 20 seconds for a 5 minute clip) It is an easy way to get some live music tracks on a cd since I also have software that will rip the audio from a yt vid and burn to cd.

Thanks. I can now see Steve's management point. However, I don't think it stops people buying the CDs/DVDs etc though.

Re: Steve Lukather Islington 29/3/2013

- interesting debate this one around copyright. Having worked now for two of the oldest publishers in the world (my role was to move them away from physical print to an online one) previously and now working for another film producer I can tell you how tough it is for people who do not quite understand the power and potential of social media to accept it and let go of a little of what they produce for nothing. It really is tough for them because they do genuinely fear the loss of control.

The problem with online is that what is lost or downloaded is not accountable because there is a chain from YouTube to numerous sites, - and the fact is that many kids do not pay for their music because they know where to get it for free. And then the likes of Spotify earn so little for the artist.

My YouTube channel with plenty of my Joe's videos dating from 2009 inc his first Hammersmith Odeon ones:
