This one was a lot easier for me, actually.  Most of the choices were really clear cut and had fewer of my favorites pitted against each other.  Jeff Beck vs. Black Sabbath was my hardest choice.

Sometimes, for fun, I like to think about what year in the '70s was the best for albums. My current "winner" in that competition is 1970:

  • The Who, Live at Leeds

  • Derek & The Dominos, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs

  • Free, Fire and Water AND Highway

  • Santana, Abraxas

  • Jimi Hendrix, Band of Gypsys

  • The Beatles, Let It Be

  • Jethro Tull, Benefit

  • B.B. King, Indianola Mississippi Seeds

  • The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy

  • Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Déjà Vu

  • Freddie King, My Feeling for the Blues

  • Emerson, Lake, & Palmer, Emerson, Lake, & Palmer

  • Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath

  • Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin III

  • Canned Heat, Future Blues

  • Deep Purple, In Rock

  • Cream, Live Cream

  • Johnny Cash, Hello, I'm Johnny Cash

  • The Band, Stage Fright

  • Johnny Winter, Johnny Winter And

  • Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cosmo's Factory

  • Ten Years After, Cricklewood Green AND Watt

  • Chicago, Chicago

  • Albert Collins, The Complete Albert Collins

  • James Gang, Rides Again

  • Elton John, Elton John AND Tumbleweed Connection

  • Simon and Garfunkel, Bridge Over Troubled Water

  • Neil Young, After the Gold Rush

And, in my mind, The Stones' Let It Bleed belongs in here too, since it was released with just three weeks left in 1969...

And this is just the stuff I liked. Rumor has it The Grateful Dead put out an album or two that year, but I never much liked those guys...  wink

Re: March Madness! The forum's Favorite Band/Artist Bracket!

And James Taylor takes the title!!!  But in a nice gesture to Stevie Wonder, the runner up from this year's tournament, James gave the trophy and prize money to Stevie after he had heard Stevie cheering and yelling "You've Got It, Friend"!  James shot back to Stevie "And You've Got A Friend, Friend"!  In an exclusive interview with me, Wonder stated he would display the trophy for all but himself to see, and, since he didn't need the prize money either, donated it for scholarships for those of sound academics to Galludet University, and, ...

...who seeded these entrants???!!!

It was done by vote at the beginning. Problem was, there was 23 artists with 2 votes apiece (including the Beatles), which meant I had to do a random sort to be completely fair on both seeding and which 11 artists had to be cut, which meant putting bands like B.B. King, Cream, and Michael Burks on the cutting room floor. That's the most fair way I can think to do it.
