Re: Simon McBride on Tour

Saw Simon two years ago at the Maryport Festival for the first time and really enjoyed his gig.

Tomorrow he's in Hamburg at No.1 Guitar Center (I heard it's one of Joe's favorites places in town . . .)!!!!!!

Can't wait . . .

Simon's upcoming gig at Sedgefield R'n'B Club on the 19th Oct is yet another Sold Out for the club.

Re: Simon McBride on Tour

A good start to 2014 for Simon with a high profile collaboration in the pipeline. From his press release this week:

SIMON McBRIDE ON NEW DON AIREY ALBUM

Belfast’s blues-rock super guitarist, Simon McBride, features on a new CD by the Deep Purple and music biz go-to keyboards player, Don Airey.

Airey’s new CD Keyed Up (released Feb 17 on the Music Theories label, part of the Mascot group), has Simon McBride playing incendiary guitar including a medley of songs from Airey’s days with Colosseum II, which Airey arranged in tribute to the late great Gary Moore. The album also contains one of the last recordings by Gary Moore, who died in 2011 aged 58.

Gary Moore happens to be one of McBride’s major influences. Despite at one time living a few miles apart, McBride never got to meet his hero. Unbeknown to Simon, Airey put Simon on a track with Gary Moore. The track starts with Simon playing and finishes with Gary Moore.

“That was a very pleasant surprise when I heard the finished album,” says Simon. “I never got to meet Gary, but I can at least say he and I are on an album together. It was a cool experience working with Don and I have to extend a big thank you to him for asking me to play.”

The afore mentioned medley of songs - entitled “_Mini-Suite_” – starts with “_Lament_”, an instrumental released as a single by Colosseum II in 1978, then moves into “_Jig_” which was the single’s B-side and later featured in Thin Lizzy's "Black Rose". The third segway is entitled “_Restless Spirit_” and quotes from two pieces Gary Moore wrote for Colosseum II, namely “_The Inquisition_” and “_Desperado_”. The closing sequence of the Mini-suite has Gary Moore playing.

Don says: “These are technically very difficult pieces and I must say Simon really rose to the occasion, not only on this medley but on all the tracks he played on.”

Simon plans to record a new album later this year. Meantime his much-praised Crossing The Line CD (Nugene Records NUG1203) continues to win him fans and draw praise from both sides of the Atlantic.

March will see Simon touring the UK, starting in Belfast and running through to March 23 including an appearance at the HRH Blues festival. He plays festivals in the UK and Scandinavia June-July.

Re: Simon McBride on Tour

After strong demand from London fans, Simon has just announced that he will be playing at the O2 Shepherds Bush on 25th April supporting Jonny Lang. What a great line-up that will be. I just hope Jonny knows what he's letting himself in for. big_smile

The chances of a duet (duel) between Jonny and Simon is mouth watering. Why oh why do the good gigs happen when I'm out of the country. sad
