Topic: Zoo in the pouring rain

It was pretty freaking cool.  if you dont read the rest of this, just know that.  When I got there I was a little amazed at how for we had to walk to just get to the amphitheatre, but when we got there it was pretty nice. It was overlooking a lake an it was dark with storm clouds starting to move in. the opener gut had a nice a acoustic set, the second band was actually really good...the main guy's name was ...something montgomery...anyways during their set  you could see lightning starting to flash which sort of created a cool atmoshpere.  I said jokingly to my brother, "this band is makin' sparks fly, but joe's gunna make it rain."  Joe took stage, and the exact split second he played the first note--and I'm talkin at the EXACT time he played the first note (at least where I was sitting)  there was a large gust of wing and the first tangable rain of the night blew in with it.  it was crazy.
anyways long story short(er), it poured hard, joe stopped in at the beginning of an indian sounding solo thing right before mountain time and we all waited for like half hour or longer (i think) unil the rain let up a little, and he played the solo again, rocked it, then did mountain time, and did like 5 or 6 songs after it (correct me if I'm wrong about that number) it satarted pouring during them, but this time he played trough the  rain.
It was completely soaked. it was like I took a shower with all my clothes on and didnt use soap or shampoo, but just sat and listened to Joe, which has some cleansing properties of its own. Actualy to tell you the truth the rain felt pretty good. it was a pretty hot and humid day in that area of minnesota, an I had been running around all day and sweating. I put speed stick on like 3 times. I have a feeling that a lot of people felt similarily, because it was a thursday, so everyone is coming after work. There is nothing I would rather have done and nowhere I would rather have been than just sitting there watching joe.
of course joe always plays songs well, but sloe gin was particularily awesome.  even though we were all standing in the pouring rain, no one felt like they were going to die.  it was pretty cool, it was like the crowd was hanging on every note joe played and sung.  ALSO... I really really really love the acoustic "High Water Everywhere" i really want a recording...like in itunes maybe?

I woke up this mornin', cant find my shoes.

Re: Zoo in the pouring rain

samfrei, you make a storm sound like a good time. I think the visual is a new entry for the glossary BONABOG...the area in front of stage during a deluge filled with Bonamaniacs.....Glad you made the best of it all! There are people here who have that taped from a show..Maybe they'll share...I don't have the skills!! Cathy

Re: Zoo in the pouring rain

First of all, to those who stuck around, Samfrei, that's what I'm talking about! Although I'm not  a (real) stage performer, I do wonder what it must be like to perform to a crowd getting soaked.  It must be a little moving.  Cathy, what people have "that" (what?) taped from a show?  People soaked in the middle of a Bonamassa concert?

Nice review Sam. Monte Montgomery was the name of the guy right before Joe. Great player, unique sound, loved him. I don't know how close to the stage you were, but we were right in front and you could literally see steam coming off of Joe's body, especially during "Woke Up Dreaming" when it was just Joe under the spotlight. It was a great visual! I think Joe was really touched that so many had stuck it out. He said right before they started playing the encore, "You are the most beautiful people in the world." Like you said Sam, "There is nothing I would rather have done and nowhere I would rather have been than just sitting there watching joe." Amen!

I always knew that Joe was "smokin", but it sounds like you could actually see it during this show! That would be a great picture...any photographers out there get a shot of this???

Re: Zoo in the pouring rain

I saw a little steam,  I thought it was coming from the lights though. yeah , was like 3 seats from the back, but all in all I could see pretty well.  There were some photographers there but I asume they tried to shelter there equipment from the water.  Jeez, there were like 4 people that were going flash crazy, there was no flash photography aloud I was told, but you really wouldnt need flash, joe was lit up pretty well.  I know if your up in the stands you might not be able to focus with the f-stop open all the way, but if you moved down close to stage, you should be able to take dandy photos without flash.

oh and monte montgomery, nice. thanks lee! I thought he had a pretty good guitar, a lttle wild and random...but that bass player was AMAZING. I could feel the bass beat in my chest. really  tight group though.

Carl---thanks a ton for hwe
