Topic: new blues rock bands?

Who are some of the best blues-rock bands that have come out since 2007?

Please list! I feel like I've been out of the loop lately.
Just found Rival Sons and liking them.

Re: new blues rock bands?

I would say the Steepwater Band from Chicago is one of the best I have found. I first heard of them in 2006 but that is close enough.

Re: new blues rock bands?

Definitely recommend you try The Union and maybe The Answer.

Blusier edged, but will rock your world, Philip Sayce and Virgil & The Accelerators, if you haven't tried them already.

Amen to that, although The Answer seem to have fallen into something of a rut and haven't gone on as I thought they could.

I would suggest Saint Jude as being a band well in the zone right now.

I'm lovin' Gary Clark Jr's 'Blak and Blu' for sure. So much in there to dig.

Re: new blues rock bands?

I'd put Pinnick Gales Pridgen in that camp.  Definitely more rock, but w/ Eric Gales on guitar there's a lot of blues in there, too.  Killer band.

Re: new blues rock bands?

Royal Southern Brotherhood have been on the radar here for some time, I like em a lot.

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Virgil & The Accelerators
King King
Royal Southern Brotherhood
Wilson T. King (you can listen to both of his albums in their entirety, but start with Last Of The Analogues)

I counted 6 in page 1 of Other Artists. Check out the other threads and you'll find them...

Re: new blues rock bands?

Thanks for all the input so far!

I knew already of: Philip Sayce, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Gary Clark Jr, Ryan McGarvey, Eric Steckel

It's hard to keep up these days, and it's hard to find artists that don't just do the "same old" blues. I know a lot of people like those artists, and while they are good, I'd much rather see that sort of thing live than buy a CD. I'm looking for bands that can do something different with it.

There are a lot if bands out there, and I do believe ones who push the boundries of blues. One source would be Bluerock Review. They review a lot of bands abd cds and I have read reviews of some that might fit what your looking for. Try www.bluesrockreview.com  If you browse the album reviews you may find some unique bands. As well as the more commonstuff.

Re: new blues rock bands?

You have probably seen me post about The Mighty Orq from Houston. They can do straight up blues or straight up rock. They have never gotten any traction even with a distribution deal. Here is a video from a venue in Germany where they have had a bit of success outside of the US  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMqvViiRm6w Orq has his own unique style of guitar playing his vocals are a bit Doyle II. Itunes has Milk Money and To The Bone which are worth the 10 bucks. Doubt you'll ever get a chance to see them but if you are ever in Houston they are worth getting out to see.

This. I think right now I'm just into finding different kinds of music right now. I think that's why I dig Gary Clark Jr so much. His music is all over the place, and that makes it completely different than anything I'm listening to currently. That's the last blues/rock artist that's truly hit me over the head with the wow factor.

That's true, but I was just thinking with his albums only recently becoming more widely available outside Europe. (That, and I only found him in 2010.)

Philip has been way under the radar for years. He won the crossroads competion, and maybe tha will help get him more exposure.I also hear what you say about availability of his cd's.Historically a lot of his music was only available as an import here in the states, and at a much higher price!
