Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

I can tolerate some country music, my girlfriend Karen is a fan so I obliged. I actually found that show more entertaining than the Grammy's and other music awards that I don't waste my time on anymore. I enjoyed the fact that the country artists acknowledged rockers Kenny Loggins, Greg Allman, Grace, & Lionel Ritchie. The line between country music and pop rock & southern rock gets thinner all the time. I for one dig Joe's collaborations with Vince Gill and hope Vince invites Joe to join him live or in the studio in the future.

The Avett Brothers with Grace Potter and The Nocturnals at The Forum, London, UK

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Saw Grace last week (2/4) here in Baltimore, she put on quite a show! And played for two solid hours. It was a small-ish venue with general admission and no seating; we got there early enough that we "claimed" a spot right up front on stage right, so we had a good view. It was a lot of fun, and very good music - I'm becoming more and more an admirer of Grace's song writing.

Anyway, if you get a chance to see this band, you won't regret it!

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

I was turned on to them from a guy who lives in Vermont and remembers her in flannel shirts, overalls and Timberlands. I think her voice is great and her band is good. I've seen her a few times with the Count Basie show this month in Red Bank, NJ.  My partner doesn't like her at all, why I'm not sure other than she thinks she's too bouncy and over the top. One of the few groups we disagree on.

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Been following Gracie & her band for years.....what a set of pipes on that girl

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

I discovered Grace Potter when working on and searching youtube before a gig with Neil Young songs. Her version of Cortez the Killer, it killed me.Even if I don't care much for Satriani, it's so great. And her great voice!! WOW
Maybe it's been linked before in this thread, but here it is.

God, I'm just a fat bald guy, 60 years old, playing the blues, you know?

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Too tempting. We have the US Open golf the next week but.... Just saw her at the Count Basie last week and she rocked

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Kenny, she did American Girl as an extra encore last night (it wasn't on the setlist).

I was enjoying myself too much to take any video though. I'm not exaggerating to say that she put on one of the best shows I've seen. When I got home last night, still buzzing from the gig, I wrote on Facebook "Grace is a force of nature and the band are as tight as you like" and that pretty much sums it up for me.

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

I'm jealous now David, didn't know you were going!! One of my mates is going to see her support the Avett Brothers in Manchester on Saturday. Hope she is on for at least an hour.

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Last night's was a full length show and her first ever headline show in Europe. Maggie and I had tickets for her supporting the Avett Brothers tonight and some time later Grace announced last night's show. Fortunately, tonight's show is sold out so Maggie managed to sell our tickets through an ethical tickets exchange at face value to a very happy Avett brothers fan. Grace promised to come back and wondered why she'd never been here before.

There's some lighter stuff on her albums but last night's show was full-on rock and a couple of ballads so everyone's heart rate had time to slow down a bit - magnificent!

I'm saddened to see how little attention this topic has had since I gave up drooling about Grace most days (I didn't really stop, I just stopped doing it in public).

But I'm heartened by recent reactions, and especially by the fact that my good friends David and Maggie had the opportunity to experience Grace up close. Not only is she the complete package of brains, beauty, and talent, not only do I love her voice and her Hammond playing, but how can you not just go weak at the knees for a beautiful woman in a short dress, with great gams, and holding a Flying Vee?? cool tongue

We're going to the Peach Fest in Scranton in August and she will be there as well.

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

My partner who has hated he before went with me locally a few weeks ago and was much more impressed.  Grace came out alone with the Flying V and started Nothing But The Water alone.  Even I didn't think she had those guitar chops.

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

I just love the image of a beautiful woman with a mean axe, but as far as playing goes, I love her Hammond playing even more. Which is why this may be my favorite -
