Topic: Nürnberg last night

it was a supertop, breathtaking and for sure one of the best bonamassa shows i have seen. like günter said before, there is another chemistry between the players and the keyboard is hearable and everybody got space for his instrument. one of my critics in former times was that its to much a one man show. sure joe still shines over all but a lot has changed i think.
starting with the acoustic set is a good idea and the electric set is suberb. much more blues in there than 2 years ago when i seen them, moments were joes guitar is only whispering a bit and he is in contact with arlan and they give the notes to each other. outstanding version of john henry.........which doesnt seem to end. lots of new arrangements in the songs and all real great.
what has really surprised me, was  joes vocals, loud clear and with long lasting ends. a phantastic evening had by all.
i dont have the setlist correctly, but encore was sloe gin and just got paid. no midnight blues in the set. acoustic set was like before but in differnt order. after that it was slow train, dust bowl and the rest was just 2 hours of wonderfull music.

Re: Nürnberg last night

Thanks for the review Thomas. That sounds absolutely wonderful. I just saw the set list from Freiburg  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid … mp;theater and it had One of These Days substituted for Midnight Blues, a tribute to the recently departed Alvin Lee. From what I've heard on youtube so far, the keyboard work of Arlan has added a lot of power to the band. I've enjoyed the back and forth call and response work between Arlan and Joe at the Baked Potato. It is sure fun to see them swapping riffs. I can't wait to hear it myself.

Re: Nürnberg last night

Thanks for posting the link to the setlist. He does seem to be changing things around frequently. That's cool. Would love to see "One of These Days", hope he does it in Vegas.

Thomas, great review.   Makes me so sad that I have to wait for months to see him.  Oh well, these reviews and youtube keep me sane

That sure has me chomping the bit for the gigs in London Thomas. Too bad the video was chopped up and only had parts of some songs, but it gave a great overview of the concert and showed how the band members are more featured with solos for all. Were you in any of that video down in front?

Re: Nürnberg last night

I had so much fun seeing the guys play in my hometown. All the three shows I saw (Stuttgart, Nürnberg, Munich) were outstanding and - as others have already said - it was great seeing the four of them interact, jam, play new songs. You could literally see the joy of playing music in their faces, and that's what it's about.

I kept saying that Arlan has injected some hippie spirit into the band - new setlist every night, 8 minute - mindblowing! - organ solos and the will to experiment. Joe denied that they will now play Pink Floyd or Emerson, Lake & Palmer albums in their entirety, but still - got to love the new spirit! wink

Here's a video from the show in Munich of them doing "Richmond" acoustic with Arlan on accordion:

Plus Thomas gave them his famous shout - that's a sign of high musical quality. Not every one gets that one ...

Thank you Eva, this video made my day.  One of the best songs by Joe I think.  Nice to see him revisit it.

Re: Nürnberg last night

Thanks for the video, Eva. With Arlan there, Joe has the opportunity to now do some of the acoustic stuff from last summer. That is really great!

Re: Nürnberg last night

Thanks Eva for the report and great vid! I love that song.
