Well, we beat Georgetown early this year and have been top ranked more than anyone else, but lately we struggled. This afternoon we righted the ship and beat 7th ranked Michigan on the road. Very hard fought game and it gives us our first outright Big Ten championship in twenty years. This is a big deal for Curby.

Well done! A fan's best hopes come true. Now on to the dance.

Rick,
It's 3 am on my clock (I absolutely hate time changes) and I'm still thinking about the game. In the first half I was so mad at the coach I wanted to leave the watering hole we were at and go home. My wife talked me into staying. UM had an eleven point lead (largest deficit of the season) and then we came back to cut it to three at half-time. The second half was an all out war and Cody Zeller played perhaps his best game. They still had a five point lead with fifty seconds on the clock until we miraculously scored three unanswered buckets before time ended.
Don't bother filling out your brackets this year as this year's tournament will be the most wide open in memory. I predict a 8 or 9th seeded team could win it. Hate to say it, but Duke with Kelly back will be a tough team to beat. Loved seeing UK bounce back from the Georgia loss and beat Florida and what a great heave from way out in the Alabama win. I love this time of year.

A great fighting result. Our Aztecs have had a struggle this year. MWC has become extra tough on the road and teams they normally handle have made the plays. They still have the great tough D but lack the shooting for the most part. A few nagging injuries have the seniors not in top form. I expect a team from MWC to go far this year but which one is a guess at best. New Mexico has a very good team. Aztecs will be in the brackets but a low seed at best.
Rick
I am with you Curby. This season has seen more games where the supposed underdog whomps on the favorite because they are playing for something, especially for the pride of a single win! Never seen so much parity, and I like it a lot.
I think this year's March Madness is W-I-D-E O-P-E-N for almost any team to run away with the Tournament Championship. Desperation has reached a certain entertainment level in the United States of America after all. Let's redefine that desperation as OPPORTUNITY. That is what they are all going to be playing for. Should be HIGHLY entertaining, even with too much hype and three too many punditz.

that was a helluva shot by Releford of Alabama, and mostly lucky but kept our "bubble" from bursting a week early. There are four SEC teams on the bubble looking in, including Tenn and Ole Miss. We will probably get Tenn this Friday night in the tourney, could be a "win and in" scenario so it should be a whale of a game. I agree it looks like a wide open dance this year, still like the really solid teams to be there at the end, like Indiana and Gonzaga. and Duke as usual.

Anybody but Duke! Going have to call out for a racketeering comission report if they keep on doing what they've always done and win all the time! Not fair!!! No, no, no!

a lame attempt at a joke on my part, obviously they are not a very solid team this year. But you know, even in off years like this they manage to play well in the tourney most years. I'm a card carryin Duke hater of the highest order, they are the ND of basketball. Still you have to love coach K, or is it S? I'd like to buy a vowel Pat.

And if you DO decide to fill out your bracket, don't bother looking for Missouri, as they look to be NIT-bound after another disappointing road loss. After their (bet the ranch) first-round exit from the SEC tournament, they'll be lucky to get to host one NIT game before losing the minute they hit the road...
One upside: No chance they'll LOSE as a No.2 seed in the first round, like they did last year...
Most years, college hoops is a blast to follow. Mizzou's first year in the SEC? Not so much...

Gonzaga is way overrated. They play one of the softest schedules around in a weak league. Big fish in a very small pond.

Can't agree on this one, Rick. They played five Big 12 teams (including 2 that are ranked and at least one other who used to be) and beat all five, including co-champion Kansas State, they played Illinois (one of their two losses), they played Davidson (who last time I looked was most likely going to win their league; Davidson beat North Carolina earlier in the season, too), they played Butler (who has stumbled a bit lately but spent most of the season in the Top 10), plus two or three other teams that have 20+ wins. That ain't a tray full of cupcakes, my friend...

I have to agree with coach on this one. Gonzaga is a good team with a great coach and always plays well in March. They're not overrated that I'd look past them, but there are four or five teams in the Big Ten better than them. Illinois is a 8 seed in our tournament and they beat them on a neutral court. Ohio State may be playing the best ball right now and Duke looked very impressive Saturday against Carolina. IU and MSU will be tough too, but will have to get lucky. VCU is also a team I wouldn't want to play. None of the Big East teams have been consistent nor has the SEC or ACC. Oh and don't forget St. Louis and Jim Crews. Crews should get national coach of the year. Where's the popcorn?........
Hey Curby,
First, been meaning to tell you, AWESOME AVATAR!
I was working at my desk and caught the first game back since beginning of Jan. for Duke's Kelly...I could NOT BELIEVE what I was witnessing.
Rocket ~ Just cuirous, why do you hate Duke? I used to dislike them, for no other reason than just the same team winning all the time, but I changed my tune when my son tore his ACL and his surgeon was a Duke grad. When he found out I was a college basketball fan, his first question to me was ...are you a Duke hater? It kinda' made me step back and analyze why so many people hate them. I ended up saving my SI copy for him when they won the tourney a couple years back and were on the cover.
I agree with everyone, filling out an accurate bracket will be a real challenge. Lots of teams have been rallying back from big deficits.

Ok folks, I'm in a distinct minority with my lack of love for Gonzaga. I'm breaking out my d20 dice from the gamer days and having a go at bracket picks in a bit. Bubble days are on us hard now. Conference tourneys should have some more surprises. Good luck to all of you for the coming days. May your seeds be in the stratosphere.

I think they are overrated, too. Very good fundamentally and strategically. But, I don't think they can withstand the extensive pressure of the tournament without more luck topping their talents off.
Haven't seen a game of theirs lately, however.

they played just last night in the conference championship game vs St Marys. They were favored by just 4 or 4 1/2 depending on which board you looked at, they ended up winning by 14. However, Kelly may not be enough to carry them to the final four or even the elite 8.
