Two new studies out on Tuesday provide some welcome news for the music industry.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry reports that global revenues rose 0.3 percent last year to $16.5 billion. Although the revenue bump was modest, the IFPI says that it was the first sign of industry growth since 1999.

Digital income is fueling the economic improvement. Revenue from downloads, subscription and advertising-supported ventures grew 9 percent to $5.6 billion in 2012. The IFPI also reports that the number of people paying to use subscription services leapt 44 percent to 20 million people worldwide.

"It is hard to remember a year for the recording industry that has begun with such a palpable buzz in the air," says IFPI chief executive Frances Moore.

Some of the growth aming my friends is a lot of live shows being released by the artists themselves for reasonable prices. Joe has released and is releasing many shows and DVD's. Many of the bands I follow (gov't mule among them) release reasonably priced live downloads soon after the show.

I'm hoping that most of that growth is by direct sales from indies. Good news indeed.

HArumph!  They got the money and I AIN'T HEARING ENOUGH GOOD MUSIC!!! I am not saying I DON'T hear ANY Good Music.  And I'm certainly happy smile with J & R, by far.

A lot of good.  Actual improvements and decent movements.  Integrity is sowing and sewing it's way into every fabric of a new cloth that clothes the World of musical business and affairs, thank goodness and keep it that way or get out.

Keep the money ends reasonable and fair, especially fair.  Money as an ends to a means is it's purpose after all, let's grow up and do the business as you want done to you.  No need for large mistrusts, aggravations, and unspoken insinuations.  Be honest, and be fair.  Fair is fair.  Don't be arrogant, but that doesn't nearly mean don't be proud of your joy in involvement.  And it should be a joy...

Sometimes we have to watch those 1's and Zeroes because in my opinion, high-priced digital delight today, and it becomes useless or a technological addition cycle, is NOT the way to go.  Too much selling it, and NOWHERE near enough backing the Products up.  That needs to change.  World economies need to deflate the ego and greed balloons and pump up something besides the volumes and profits.  I say more important things, get creative.  Everything is "corporate" these days, going to remain no matter how much bitching about taxes and stuff.  We've seen take!  Time for give and take.  Want some trust in the New World Music Business?  Put some trust back INTO it, and watch things grow better AND more! wink

Rock ON & Keep the Faith, And oh yeah, Thank You too,
