My Cats are too painful to watch sad Quit watching today within in 1st few minutes we were down by 12. I haven't really had much time to watch many of the games this season. Only catch a few minutes of some & highlights or scores on ESPN. I do keep track of top 25 March will be a blast this year after the way #1 has changed! Congrats to Boeheim for milestone always admired & respected him. And he did after all marry a Ky gal wink

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Liz,

I feel for you.  Noel was every bit the star.  It's too bad what happened and the debacle today in Knoxville.  The team next year will be very special.  No ones ever assembled that much talent.  Cal will learn from this year.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Wow! What a great game. The Rebels came out with some poor defense and rebounding in the first half. Coach Rice, let our star freshman ride the pine to start the second half because of his poor performance. Bennett really stepped it up after that. Personally, I think our seniors should have been starting all season. Anthony Bennett is a very good player, but still has a lot to learn. I don’t think that he will be here next season anyway. I’m sure he will off to the NBA. Rick’s Aztecs had a very good turnout because of the three day weekend and they let themselves be heard in the first half. The Rebellion was LOUD! In the second half and really helped the team rally for another huge win. Yes, my voice is gone as always… We swept the Aztecs in both game for the first time since 2008. It’s always a great mach up. I’M very glad that they will be staying in the MWC.

See you again in the Conference Champions Rick.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Have fun Bill. It looks like the worm has turned. I checked the game stats and it seems the only difference was ft shooting in the second half. There is some kind of fix in when the Rebs get Conference Champs in their home turf for THE NEXT THREE YEARS!? Oh well, it's Las Vegas.... I'm glad we are staying in the league but, man it is a grinder on the road with all those high elevation schools. I'd like to see some of those Big East teams play up at Wyoming or Air Force.
I'll be off in Europe for the madness this year chasing Joe. Hope to keep up online.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Mike Anderson took down his old team as Arkansas beat Missouri yesterday. Baby steps, but they're making progress. 15-9 and 7-5 in conference. I hope they keep it up!

How about those Indiana Hoosiers!  What a war at Michigan State,  Classic Big Ten Basketball.  I had to take a blood pressure pill after that one.

My blood pressure was fine until I noticed  midway into the first half that Ted Valentine was officiating the game.  Things got dramatically bizarre in the second half with all the terrible calls against IU.  Never mind that these are probably the two best teams this year playing a hard fought game, but it's always all about Ted.  Despite his antics the Hoosiers beat MSU in Lansing for the first time since '91.  A huge win for us.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

I tuned in only to catch the very end when IU was up by 1 with less than 20 seconds left on the clock. It felt like it took 20 minutes to complete the game with all the stuff that happened at the end. Great win you two!

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Another nail biter at the Rebel game lastnight. The Mac was packed and once again the Rebellion helped helped the team and my voice is gone... Oh! Anthony Marshall's shot with 10 secends to go helped too. I am glad that we were out of time outs at the end. I think a timeout would have just added more pressure and could of cost us the win. CSU gambled and didn't use there final timeout and missed a 3 pointer that could have won the game at the buzzer. What a night.

The Team is playing is safe and has chartered a plane to fly into Wyoming for our next game. We had a huge loss there last year because of travel problems, lack of sleep and no practice time. Road wins are at a premium in the Mountain West, and the Rebels have really struggled on the road. Let's hope that it pays off, we need it...

Got air? (The sign that greets teams in the visitors locker room at 7200 foot elevation Wyoming) lol
Coach Fisher is steaming over the selection of Las Vegas as the venue for the future MWC champs. Called the league basically bush and that it is the ONLY major or mid major to not have the champs on a neutral court, much less on the home court of a perennial strong team. roll

Feel bad for you Rick.  That's a huge advantage for UNLV, but everything comes back to the money.  Our tournament is played in Chicago every year and it's no big deal cause Northwestern's an academics first school.

A nice link.  This is what college basketball used to be all about and it does my heart proud that a story like this emanates from my school.  In case you've caught a game of IU playing this season you'd have to notice the meteoric rise of Victor Oladipo.  He's gone from an unknown 3 star in high school to perhaps the best player in college basketball.

That is a great story. A young man with intent and a work ethic to match. He will do well and IU with him.

Oladipo is a gamer and he is very multifaceted.  He played the Michigan State game with an ankle injury.  Tom Izzo sure respects him.

Shout Out to Rocket ~ I'm rooting for your Orangemen to bring down Georgetown on Saturday. Good Luck!

Wed. was a good day for college hoops in Philly ~ 2 bubble teams won, Villanova and Temple, and St. Joe's and LaSalle won as well. I loved the headline in Thursday's paper "Cat Burglars" referring to 'Nova Wildcats upsetting Georgetown and breaking their 11 game winning streak. Cheers to my Jekyl/Hyde Wildcats! lol (so unpredictable...playing up...playing down...)

I saw that result and thought of you Angela. big_smile Cats take down the big dog! Fab win for you and Nova is still alive. Our Aztecs are sputtering towards the finish line. Looking to be a low seed but not in bubble range with a 23 or so win season still possible. They won't go far, just missing a key player or two and an early round and out kinda team I think, unless the injuries heal and they find their shooting eye again. Still a great defensive team but some youngsters are making critical mistakes. hmm

I didn't even roll out of bed to watch the game, believe it or not, Angela.  Why not?!  Two reasons: Bummed about the impending end of the Big East (sort of), at least the intense rivalries in the conference for basketball, and, two, Georgetown was going to make some Orange Crush out of the event.  How did I know that?! Easy!  We HAD to let them win!!! lol  Yes, funny, but absolutely true.  lol  As usual, the way to beat Syracuse is to remember Jim Boeheim's teams historical problems with shooting percentage and foul shot percentages.  This time JB told the guys to not pass the ball well, usually a hallmark of their greatness.

The Thompson Twins will remain the most lovingly hated opposing coaches in Syracuse lore for ages...Greatly respected and truly loved!  yikes big_smile  Not even Connecticut had Syracuse's number like Georgetown did.  Help from the heavens often came in the form of fitting blizzards almost on cue, whether an away game in D.C. or the comfortable (except for the visiting Hoyas) Carrier Dome, electrifying winter wired (not winter weary) fans in Central and North Country New York State when the two teams met.  Often games were talked up for weeks.  Both teams even had unexpected slip ups with supposedly weak teams because they were subconsciously AND CONSCIOUSLY distracted thinking ahead to the future match up.

It is just another "blip".  Another great rivalry falls away.  Penn State-SU football went bye-bye ages ago when IT had been one of the great college rivalries.  Now this, although they will still possibly play, and it may even, occasionally, nostalgically have shadow memories of the greatness, I predict it will mostly reflect that dimly.  All that is left for Syracuse athletics rivalries descent into hell is for Johns Hopkins University and Syracuse to quit the best NCAA Division I Lacrosse rivalry.

Now then, all that aside, moving into the ACC is intriguing at the least.  I know some North Carolina centric teams' fans are wondering what an airplane is for! And learn what a parka is!!! yikes tongue

And Angela, the Owls and Wildcats are both good teams, I am predicting good things in the tourney (NCAA) from them both if they can handle not being a home team.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Hey Rocket,
Georgetown is my least favorite team in the Big East...goes back to really disliking the dad John Thompson...and some other stuff about the university... Sorry to see your rivalry end that way. I am kinda' sad to see the Big East as we know it end...

Oh Well...Maybe The Change Will Do Me Good...as they say
