The biggest surprise was Illinois beating #1 Indiana. The Illlini has been good at times, but mostly mediocre.

and Illinois had lost 8 out of their last 11, after starting the season 12-0. Seems that nobody wants #1, teams are just renting that space for a week or two. I thought Florida was the real deal, wanted them to have a turn at #1, but not so much.

The sick Cameron Crazies really stuck the pin in the party hog last night. If you listen to the video closely you can hear it clearly, not just a handful of students. I feel sorry for coach K and the team, they had nothing to do with it. I can truthfully say with Samuel L. Jackson in A Time to Kill, "I hope they all burn in hell". Check out the very last line in the article, but I'm not sure that's true any more now that they have some concrete evidence.

Different day, different teams, different surprise.  And the very biggest surprise was how open sophomore Zeller let Griffey get!  It looked like a fixed fight!!!

A mind reader deluxe you are, Stu.  He is indeed next!

Did ya notice that Huck was a number 5 playing card?  It was my belief Flacco would prevail, as much as I couldn't admit it it verbally...Plus he was always singing Oh My Darlin' Clementine (met a miner, 49er, etc.)

I did not pick up on that, I was too busy waxing nostalgic; Saturday mornings in front of the TV, watching Huckleberry and listening to his southern drawl.

Man I miss that, too!  Used to set up a tray and eat Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes) style "Sugar Bombs" cereal (with a "prize" hopefully, and even more hopefully cheated the late sleeping sibling sisters out of)...

It's going to be an interesting February and possibly the most interesting bubble in a while building up to the March Madness.

Oh yes Rocket, I couldn't believe my eyes at that end game meltdown and Zeller is fast becoming a liability defending.  Especially on inbounds plays. That Illinois coach set it up perfectly while our guy did nothing with three timeouts in his pocket.  Illinois hung around the whole game mainly due to so many unforced turnovers by us and those last three minutes played like the team that started 12-0.  That game is gonna cost us winning the Big Ten.

As for a cartoon comparison mine is Pepe Le Pew.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

I was out last night and found my self watchin' the Kentucky/Florida game and witnessed Nerlens Noel's injury on a fast break blocked shot.  The kid was really hustling back to make the play and ruptured his pateller tendon coming down.  He'll be out the rest of the season and the injury could affect his draft status.  Was projected as the number one pick for his incredible shot-blocking and huge potential.  If he decides to stay an extra year to play with their incoming class I don't see them losing, but he may still be picked in the top 3 and could go pro.

UK still has some bigs to replace him and I hope they come back.

It just isn't Kentucky's year.

The Big 10 continues to look like the Big East whomping each other down.  A couple of bruisers could pummel their way through the Tourney.

The shortest month of the year can wreak havoc on teams and seem the longest.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Lots of parity lately around the leagues with big names going down right and left. Aztecs came a cropper with a non-charging call flipping the outcome at Colorado in the last minute, (no excuse as coach said since homer reffing is part of the game). UNLV went down in the high country to AFA as well yesterday. Nagging injuries and flu to key starters, road fatigue and a thin bench taking a toll it looks like. Rough again in the MWC with new kids playing well at altitude. Aztecs will have to kick it up a notch to have a chance at play in March.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

It's certainly getting interesting.

Aztecs likely won't even make the Sweet 16 if they are in anyway in my opinion.  Creighton looks like a sunk ship unless they win out.  Too bad they are too good a team, blew some badly, but Wichita State is probably better for the long haul.  They'll meet for their final regular conference game.  I think Kansas is ranked too low, and Ohio State too high.  Butler got a reality check from Charlotte...

Syracuse losing at UConn ZERO surprise.  Storrs is as bad as the Carrier Dome, worse even due to it's isolation.  Of course the Calhoun factor always figures in, even when it is not the coach! Actually, in my opinion Jim Calhoun was a superior coach compared to Jim Boeheim.  His health problems took his win totals down towards the end of his career.  And rivalries in the Big East..., wow is to going to be awkward for the Orange fans next year.

Michigan State, Miami, Gonzaga, Oregon, Baylor, Indiana, all playing well.

Some pretty good matchups tonight: St. Mary's-Gonzaga, Louisville-St. John's, Wisconsin-Minnesota.  If Colorado can avoid OT and play well they might beat Arizona (overrated in my opinion) tonight.

All teams mottos should now be SURVIVE!

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Aztecs in is unlikely. One bad back and a reinjured wrist last night make the team without two of the best too thin to win a lot closing out the season and surely going nowhere with an at-large mercy bid. Syracuse looks pretty good, even with the hiccup. No team has been without some stubbed toes this year. Rocket, your named teams all are looking good and it will be a mad scramble down to the wire to see who's in and out. Great and exciting ball this year. I'm sure there will be some more shocks and surprises.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

It's a sellout crowd for tonight’s game against SDSU. Thankfully it a home game because the Rebels sure can't get it together when out on the road. It's going to be loud! I won't have a voice tomorrow.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

I hope the Rebels and Aztecs get in cause I pull for everyone's team here.  As of right now Michigan State and Indiana are the top two teams in the country.  Next I'd have Miami, Florida, Duke and Michigan.

Have a blast Bill. I'll miss it due to a planned family event. Both our teams have had some struggles this season. Neither seem as good as last year and the league has gotten a lot tougher. The bright side is the injuries have forced some of the up and comers to get floor time they never would have seen so next year may be a great one if we don't lose our juniors to the NBA again.
