I sorta take some of that back about india, listened to it a bit last night on my ride home after cathy and i parted ways, it definitely has a cool ending. i haven't listened to it alot and should reserve my comments sometimes because it probably sounded like i didn't like it but i just can't describe it

To me India is a really cool song.  Some very, very nice guitar work on this song.  It seems that technically it would be hard to do, but I am not a guitar player.

Favorite song off Sloe Gin--- Would have to say it's "Sloe Gin"

the rest of the songs I like equally as well.  There is so much there to get lost in that it's difficult to say beyond sloe gin being such a stand out song, which ones I like next best.   They are ALL AMAZING SONGS, and because of it, this CD is going to be the focus of my attention for quite some time.  Maybe by the time my ears become fatigued from listening to this for months on end,  Joe will have a new and exciting CD in the works.  Yeah, hows he gonna top this.  We thought a few years ago when we first discovered Joe, that ANDY LIVE could not be topped by Joe or replaced by any other artists' work.   Joe is the only one who can top Joe. nuff said !!!

I guess I'm Jim secretary again, cause he is entering HIS comments on favorite song from Sloe Gin- nope he can't type, there's not enough electronics gizmos involved in the process of typing.

1st- is "Sloe Gin"  and next he said his next fav. is "Black Knight",  then the rest of the CD in no particular order - all fantastic songs.

Nice choice Big Jim, Black Night does have a vibe about it.  It's you all the way Jim !  Black Knight-  that song is soooo you !!!

Must be the something in the tones

I love them all, but Jelly Roll is still my favorite.  Love the syncopated rhythm and Joe's voice.  I wish it were longer, maybe a LIVE version this weekend (hint...hint...)  Patty smile

First off, it's his best album to date, hands down! There is just enough of everything to satisfy my needs. I love shredders more than anything, but I love to mix it up, probably to give my one good ear a break. Heres my preference, and by the way "Black Night" hit me hard the very first time played.

1)   Black Night
2)   One of These Days
3)   Sloe Gin
4)   Another Kind of Love
5)   Ball Peen Hammer
6)   Dirt in My Pocket
7)   Jelly Roll
8)   Seagull
9)   Around the Bend
10)  Richmond
11)  India

The first 4 are set in stone, the next 4 can be mixed, the last 3 stay

After about umpteenth listen, "Black Night" really is a great song.  We were on the way home last night from a local pub, with my wife driving, and was listening to her ipod and had to put some Joe on.  It was kinda late, feelin pretty good and "Black Night"  playing, just struck me as an awesome song and of my favorites now...

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

I am undecided as to my favourite track but a little bewildered as to why he resurrected Around The Bend with not a great deal of change. Surely he could have come up with another new tune   or covered another artist.

Better Late than Never.... Got this thing in order now....  must have order, order, order, now order in the courts cause here comes the judge. No I'm not a judge, think I saw it on the three stooges maybe.....Disorder in the Courts Episode maybe.... I dunno.  As difficult as this was to decide and put in ORDER of preference... CAUSE THEY'RE ALL SOOO GOOD

1) Sloe Gin
2) Dirt in My Pockets
3) Black Night- Tone all over the place.  Nice drums.
4) Richmond - "She didn't change me, she forgave me"
5) Around the Bend
6) Jelly Roll-  Luv it - Unique & Whimsical
7) Another Kind of Love
8) Ball Peen Hammer
9) Sea Gull
10) One of these Days
11) India

*****Read the fine print....Subject to change without notice*****, but not likely, cept for positions two and three.
It's all so sweetly complex !

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

Ok, time to share my thoughts and vote for my favorites. In reading through everyone's posts, I think I may be in the minority with some of my selections.

My favorites are Another Kind Of Love, Around The Bend, Black Night, Jelly Roll, Richmond and India.

Sloe Gin and Dirt In My Pocket are sort of in the middle for me.

Ball Peen Hammer, Seagull and One of These Days are my least favorite.

Now before you squint your eyes and share your head, let me explain myself.

I am drawn to what are my favorites on the CD largely due to the sound of the songs/recordings. Another Kind Of Love, Around The Bend, Black Night, Jelly Roll, Richmond and India (to me) have more depth, texture, presence and edge than the other songs. They feel more 3-dimensional. That doesn't make them better, I just prefer the sound and mix of these songs. The guitar is clearer and has a crisper edge. They are more "Open" and inviting.

In Ball Peen Hammer and One Of These Days - while great songs - I get this sense of too much balance. There's not as many places for me to get into the music. What I mean by "get into" is crawl inside and integrate myself with the music. There isn't many openings or doorways to let me enter, I sense a wall where everything is full and these doors are closed. They are smooth, full, and balanced, and in someways (to me) that tends to hold me at arm's length. The guitar often sounds as if the initial "attack" of pick-striking-string sound has been softened or rounded off somehow in the engineering process of the recording. That is effective in forcing the listener to focus on the song as a whole as opposed to the just guitar parts, but I think that could have been accomplished without the loss of that edge?

My middle songs, Dirt in My Pocket and Sloe Gin still feature some, but less of, that guitar-sound-softening and edge smoothing. They have more depth and texture and I find them more welcoming. They are great performances and recordings. I love Sloe Gin and Joe's interpretation of it, but find that I enjoyed the sound and feel of the live Sloe Gin video here on the website than I do the studio version. It lives and breathes more.

India is a great tune. I hear more and more Eastern influence creeping into Joe's music. I don't know how many of you are familiar with Harry Manx. One of the faithful here (I apologize that I don't remember who) send me an amazing Harry Manx "Mix" CD that was a mix of Blues and Eastern music. They go very well together.

So to wrap this up, I really like the whole Sloe Gin CD. Really I do - and I like it a lot. All the songs are great, but my favorites are my favorites because of how they sound.

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

I have finally listened to this album enough to list a few favorites.
First, let me say that I LOVE this entire album...there is not a bad song throughout.
If I have a drive of an hour, I will listen all the way through. When I have a 5 or 10 minute drive, I find myself listening to these (I guess that means they're my favorites), most frequently (listed in order of appearance):
Ball Peen Hammer
One of These Days
Sloe Gin
Another Kind of Love
Black Night
Jelly Roll
