From Noisecreep:

If you put on Heaven & Earth's upcoming Dig album on your turntable and asked someone to guess what year it came out, they'd probably say somewhere between 1972 and 1979. It's no surprise since the group cite classic rock icons Deep Purple and Bad Company as musical and spiritual influences.

Founded by British guitarist Stuart Smith, Heaven & Earth is rounded out by bassist Chuck Wright (Quiet Riot, House of Lords), singer Joe Retta (The Sweet), drummer Richie Onori (The Sweet) and keyboardist Arlan Schierbaum (Joe Bonamassa). Dig, their third studio album, was produced by Dave Jenkins, a man who's turned the knobs for everyone from Metallica to R&B vets Tower of Power. The album features guest performances from Howard Leese (Heart), Richie Sambora and David Paich (Toto) and will hit stores on April 23.
Today, Noisecreep is bringing you an exclusive video showcasing Heaven & Earth and their upcoming album.

Re: Heaven and Earth (Arlan is on this)

Not familiar with the band or with the musician's other than Arlan. The video had kind of s Spinal Tap feel to it. I'm not really into that style of music so I'm not a good judge of it. The whole 80's hair metal thing never took hold of me. In retrospect I can appreciate some of it but at the time I was sort of like OK I survived Disco and New Wave I don't know if I can survive this. Grunge kind of rescued my ears as I found something that hit a nerve that rocked with out the glitz and glamour.

I agree with Jim. I had a house full of teenagers in that era and got my fill of metal of every ilk. I'm sure they will have an audience and there are good players in the group. Arlan is a very versatile keyboard man.

Re: Heaven and Earth (Arlan is on this)

Thanks for the preview.  I really "Dig" Stuart Smith, so can't wait to see what this one is going to sound like.

I remember when Stuart first put this thing together. Boy how time flies.  I hope Stuart throws some acoustic stuff on here cause I like that part of him.

From the clip, the track I like right now is the Ritchie Sambora one. Looking forward to hearing this album when it comes out.

Lol at Jim.  I'm sure their must be a picture of you somewhere with a hair spray bottle in your hand dousing your long hair with a fire extinguisher near by.  Rick has probably got an extra pair of leather pants for your next Dokken concert.  See ya both there, the MetalCat^-^ wink

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol

Re: Heaven and Earth (Arlan is on this)

I wouldn't call this hair metal.... the image might be long hair, but I think the spirit of this record is closest to 70's era Deep Purple, which I know is Stuart Smith's biggest influence musically.  There is some 80's AOR, but to me AOR means potential for good songs and hooks.  They recorded the backing tracks in analog in a big studio in Burbank, CA and I don't know of too many hair metal bands that have a Hammond B3 in their sound.

From a guitar standpoint, Stuart's tone and vibrato is very pronounced and clean.  I think a lot JB fans will enjoy a lot of this record.  JB has never been straight blues and the H&E record I am sure has a mix of styles in it too.

My 2 Cents,

Frank

You are right, this is not hair metal.  Just some great rock.

I enjoy Stuart's playing and glad to see he is putting out this record.  Want to see what the new songs sound like with the new lead singer.
