Topic: Virgil plays through 'Holy Grail' amps

Been waiting for this to surface. Virgil did a feature for Guitarist Magazine and they had some rare historic amps from Rory Gallagher and Brian May. Including Rory Gallagher's Bassman switched on for the first time in 18 years. For those into amps, the aroma was devine wink A very special day.

Cool video! Bet it was really cool to actually be in that room or better yet, playing the amps. Probably really puts it all in perspective. I'll have to get the headphones out later and listen again.

Its funny how today, we spend all this money trying to sound like we're playing through old stuff like that. The technology for recording, playing etc was nothing back then like it is today, and its still a never ending quest.

Re: Virgil plays through 'Holy Grail' amps

What's Virgil's accent...I thought they were a British band? I would choose the Superbass!

Re: Virgil plays through 'Holy Grail' amps

You're british, you tell me! I always wanted a lesson on the different dialects of the british accent. I hear many variations. People in the US have 20 different geographical based accents too.. Theres about 5 in PA alone that I can think of.

And yeah, the Super Bass all the way for me too.

Re: Virgil plays through 'Holy Grail' amps

Virgil lived in South Africa until (I think) age 10.

This was a cool video to watch.  I don't play guitar, but even I can tell how awesome these old amps sound.

"There's a lot of people that are in so much of a hurry to be, I guess, to be famous or that they don't want to take the time to learn to play and do all that. They'd rather just knock it down off a computer and maybe get on a game show and get famous..That's fine if that's what you want to do.

...what a privilege! ...they way to go go go!!! wink

Re: Virgil plays through 'Holy Grail' amps

It was an an awesome day. The amps were delivered after we arrived. The smell of 'vintage' in that room was heavy (for the non players like me, sniffing vintage stuff is what players do). Rorys was delivered by two of his original tour crew, nice couple of old Irish boys, full of humility and hilarious. Brian Mays tech delivered his amps and again a really nice guy, slipped me a couple of the sixpence's Brian uses as a pick. Very cool and very privileged to be asked to do that day. There were some nice vintage guitars there too but Virge stuck with his trusty steeds.
Helrazr your bang on about simplicity. In are cording studio, the more you put in between your sound and the tape, the harder you make life for yourself and your engineer.
As Sandy mentioned Virgil was born in South African and then moved to Aberystwyth when he was 10. So his accent is a mix, people often think he is either American or Australian.

It was a thrill to watch, even for a nonplayer! What an honor for Virgil smile

Such a privilage....

Just started a similar thread in the Gear page (for those who don't come down the the "Other bands".

When life gives you lemons; don't make lemonade.
Give back the lemons.  Why were the lemons free?  What's wrong with the lemons?
