Topic: The Shield

From 2002 - 2008 I couldn't get enough of this series. It was groundbreaking tv and I would get downloaded US episodes and then watch them again when they aired on UK tv. The writers were incredible and you really didn't know what was going to happen next. It was compulsive viewing waiting to see what happened to Vic next. At the end of series 5, I stared at the screen in silence for about 10 minutes not believing what had happened to Lem. My wife thought I had had a stroke or something.

What is it about bad cops that gets the viewers support? I certainly wasn't alone in hoping Vic wouldn't get caught and hating the "good" guys, especially Rawlings and Kavanaugh (superbly played by Glenn Close & Forest Whitaker). No one could have failed to have been touched by what happened to Shane and his family in the very last episode.

I have just finished all the 7 series again and I still couldn't believe what happened to Lem even though I knew what was comimg. It was just as fascinating watching all the episodes again. I also wander if Victor Samuel Mackey did his 3 years with the Feds. Somehow I doubt it.

It is my favourite tv series of all time. Genius.

Any other fans?

Re: The Shield

Huge fan, but never watched it live.  Instead, bought all of the season DVD sets after the series was done and let her rip.  Some seriously twisted plot lines.  And like you said, nothing was ever predictable.  What a great cast too.  I'm always excited to see members of that cast on different shows now as most were relative unknowns (at least to me).  I too never felt bad rooting for the bad guys. Perhaps the greatest anti-hero in television history.  The scene where Vic has to allocute to any and all crimes to the FBI for full immunity and he completely shocks the sh*t out of them with the breadth and depth of them all.  In the end he loses everything but his freedom.  Great show!

Re: The Shield

Watched it after I'd seen Sopranos and The Wire, enjoyed it very much, and ripped through the entire series in no time...but, I still have a preference for the other two, and no, I can't decide which is my absolute most favorite.

Until the above mentioned came along, my favorite cop show ever was Hill St. Blues.

Re: The Shield

I hope you all have been watching Southland.  It is an awesome cop show.  I can't believe NBC gave up on it so quickly.  Thank you TBS for seeing its potential and taking it over.  New season starts next month!

Re: The Shield

If anybody liked the Shield, written, directed, & produced by Kurt Sutter then give his current project Sons of Anarchy a watch. SoA is one of my favorite shows along with Justified. Lots of the Shield cast show up in episodes of SoA.

Re: The Shield

Just getting started on Season 2 of the Shield.  Finished the first one a couple of months back so been a bit slow moving onto this one, will probably fly through them now.

Liked how the 1st season built quite slowly to an explosive ending..brilliant stuff.  Six seasons to work through, looking forward to it!

Re: The Shield

The Shield was a great show and Vic Mackie is one of the greatest characters. The others shows that were mentioned above are also top notch. There is talk every now and then of a Shield movie. We'll see how that eventually turns out. Since SoA only has one or two seasons left, maybe sometime after that.

Re: The Shield

I remember Michael Chicklis talking about a movie during the making of Season 7. Wouldn't say anymore as people would find out if it was a prequel or a sequel. Would have to be a prequel IMO.
