Re: We Want Grooove

I get nowhere near such good results from my camera. It's a Samsung WB700 and, while the HD video quality is great, the audio sounds terrible. Did you have to take special measures to make sure the audio doesn't get clipped due to the volume? I've been sat/stood in the same position at regular shows, got great video, but the audio was awful. Any tips would be much appreciated.

In addition to good video performance, the top end Lumix has a very good dolby audio mic stereo system. It is incapable of overload in my experience. (6' from Glenns' bass amp at BCC gigs.)

Yup, been there myself. Audio was a mess, especially the intro of 'Black Country'.
I saw Alice Cooper back in November and was sat right at the back of Sheffield City Hall (not a large venue, but still no low ceiling club) and the volume could not have been considered loud. The audio was still unuseable. I'm very surprised it's not possible to set the recording level/mic sensitivity. It is quite a cheap camera though.
Been considering sticking a block of sponge or foam over the mic holes in the camera body to see how that works out

I would scrap your current camera and just get the lumix DMC-ZS19 or 20. They really are not all that expensive especially when you consider their capabilities. For about $250 you get an extremely portable camera with a top quality 24mm wide angle leica lens with 20x optical zoom, AVCHD/MP4 HD video and stereo mics with a built in limiter. You can't go wrong with this camera.

It's pretty cool that Joe tweeted a picture that I sent to him. Another reminder of a great show and great person.

Here is Octopuse-E from the first night second set.

Rick, I think you and I had the same situation with the Root Down and Ode to Gee on the first night. They never really stopped playing in between those songs, so we both kept the cameras rolling. I was starting to get a little worried when I got to the 22 min mark because the camera only wants to do 26 minutes for each new record time, and I thought they might play beyond my alotted time. Luckily it ended at 22:39. Our internet is so slow, it took almost 12 hours to upload it! The "stage" space was so small for them and Joe was so into his solo at one point that he bonked his head right into his microphone (7:19). He got a somewhat dazed look on his face but kept right on jamming smile

Here is a little snippet. Joe's solo at the end of Heartbeat on the first night, second set. Also contains the end of Ron's solo.

Re: We Want Grooove

Is Rock Candy Funk Party named after the old Montrose Song, "Rock Candy"? What a great old song!! Joe could do a cover of that song with no problem, I think. I would like it.

Re: We Want Grooove

Another cool solo by Joe starting at 3:39 on this version of Work from the second night, first set. Unfortunately Joe and Ron both block my view of Mike during Mike's solo, so instead you get about 3 min of Joe's butt at that time, oh well. smile

That was excellent Pete! An interesting choice of imagery.
