Topic: London - Shepherd's Bush Empire - March 29th, 2007

Most of you viewing this post probably already have a recording of this.  If you don't, you need it!

This is possibly the best all around sounding performance and recording I've ever heard (by anyone) and I have a lot of shows by a lot of bands!  The tone, energy, sound quality, individual performances, the crowd, the songs...this show should be inducted into the R&R HOF of it's own merit!

My comment/question is that I know there are other (5?) songs from this concert, but every reference I find for it only has:
Walk In My Shadows
Blues Deluxe
Bridge To Better Days
Asking Around For You

Who knows the complete set list and can you point me to a link or torrent for the complete show?  I know it was a BBC broadcast, so it has to be around somewhere, I just haven't found it.

And I suppose if there were video of this, it would be in circulation already, correct?

I thank you and good day.

P.S. Is anyone aware of other tracks available from the studio BBC stuff from 2006 often tacked on to the end of the SBE tracks?

This was my first intro to Joe and agree, great recording!  I don't hear many talk about this show.  I purchased a copy of the 5 songs from itunes back in 2008, but I don't see it there any more.  Looks like you can still get it from Joe's store

The fifth song is Just Got Paid.  I'm not aware of any other songs.

Hope that helps.

Very hard to believe people don't talk much about this show.  It's an 11 on a 10 scale!  Didn't even know a link to the show in Joe's store existed.  Hard to believe there are no reviews!  Too bad there is no track listing either.  I'll bet 'management' could tell me though.

It's an interesting show and one I have listened to a lot.  But there are some things that really jump out at me now.  First, it sounds like Joes guitar was out of tune on Takin' The Hit.  Not sure if that was on purpose or not.  More importantly though, Joe's vocals are so breathy and quite honestly weak, I've always wondered if it was due to the weight issue (Joe was at or near his peak) or if he just chose to sing that way on that tour.  Compared to how he sings now, it's kind of a rough ride.

I bought this when it first came out ...haven't listened to it in about 6 months, but it has one of my favorite versions of "Walk in My Shadows".

The version I have doesn't have Takin the Hit. Maybe that is why it isn't on it wink Not sure who was teching then but if it was not in tune I'm sure he got a look. I would have to check the timeline to know if that was pre Dave Pate. Still Joe can tune on the fly if needed. Would be curious to hear it myself. He used to play Takin the Hit with the Gigliotti and Mountain time. That guitar stays in tune. **## happens sometimes.

That is how Joe sang till he changed his approach out of necessity. He had nodes on his vocal chords and feared he would have to have surgery if he didn't change the way he sang. He had some problems at times and some nights were better or worse than others. That is why I say there is anybody else that works as hard as him. A true professional works on his weaknesses. He knew he had to improve his vocals to be on par with his playing.

Yea, haven't yet heard the rest of the tunes on the set list you provided.  I honestly really like Joe's vocals from that era.  The characteristics of his voice added distinctive personality (as it still does).  "You knowwwwwww the sun will rise" is a good example of that style in his vocals from "Bridge...".  I've definitely appreciated the maturation of his voice over the years, but it feels like his vocals had "more teeth" early on, if that makes sense.

For me though, the two greatest standouts from this show musically are Joe's tone and Bogie's drum sound.  I've not heard them captured better.  I know Joe is a master of tone, but this one gives me goose bumps when I listen to it!

Do you know if the download of the show in Joe's store is the complete set?  Or does anyone know of a link to a torrent of the complete set, preferably lossless?

I thank you.

Re: London - Shepherd's Bush Empire - March 29th, 2007

The digital download is not the full show.  Just 5 songs.  I don't think you will find a full BBC torrent since it was available before Joe released the show (albeit incomplete).  Legit torrent sites like Dime or TTD won't let shows released commercially be torrented.

Re: London - Shepherd's Bush Empire - March 29th, 2007

This was my first gig seeing  joe live!! I'd just gotten into joes music, guitar playing etc....when I decided to make the trip over to London for this gig, thinking that not many would be into Joe at that time.......I was so wrong they were queued round the block and til this day it's the only gig I've ever been too where the ticket touts were looking to buy tickets above the market value!!! It was whit doubt one of those gigs that just stick in my memory smile
One thing that stuck out straight away was that Eric ( the Captain) wasn't on bass, but other guy!!! Thanks for bringing this to my attention smile

Re: London - Shepherd's Bush Empire - March 29th, 2007

The iTunes download was not the complete BBC broadcast.  No idea how many songs were played that didn't make the broadcast.  The fm>md torrent is the most complete available.

Is the entire broadcast version (non-torrent) available anywhere?  Or was it just record it as it was broadcast (smart) or lose out partially?  If it is not yet all available, sure begs a why not.

The BBC broadcasts partial recordings all the time.  That may be the case here.  Joe would have to say if more songs were performed or not.
