Topic: What do you think of this Top?

i was curious the other day so i searched for the top 100 blues guitarists,
i came upon this one: http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/b … uitar.html
and i want opinions, because this top doesn't do it for me!!! no way...
my top would have derek Trucks and Joe Bonamassa and Stevie Ray Vaughan as the first three...
And why the hell is Gary Moore number 52 ?! He deserves way way better than this...

Re: What do you think of this Top?

Reem, there have been rants and discussions on those "top" lists for quite a while. They are market drivers for whichever entity puts them up and have no basis on reality. I've learned to ignore them. A list of tops is entirely subjective and we each have our own idea of what it should be. My opinion is based on what music I like and listen to, just as is yours.

Re: What do you think of this Top?

It's clear that whoever came up with this list gives more weight to the pioneers of blues guitar - those that strongly influence today's blues guitarists - and I don't have any problem with that at all. In fact, considering Joe's (and others on the list) standing among the blues purists, I think it's great just to see him on this list.

Re: What do you think of this Top?

how would we know how this Top was based on what?
i mean, i can make a Top and publish it online based only on my opinion but nobody would know that...
there's people who believe anything online...

Re: What do you think of this Top?

Yeah, and not that I know anything about this, but have been told that a lot of the Top Lists are based on the artist's affiliations, their label, their owners, etc.  If you don't have the "right" business connections, you don't have a chance...e.g., independents like Joe.

Saw the Rolling Stones list of "100 Best Guitar Players" last summer and not one mention of Joe.  What...a...farce.

Re: What do you think of this Top?

Just noted they did not include Hendrix or Page or Beck who certainly play blues.I also agree these lists to be taken with a grain of salt.

seriously, the list changes. ok i see it has not changed since June or something but if you go to the forums you can speak your mind, or PM the editor of that list.
the forum link is below the list but here is a short cut to the pertinent thread.

of course it is up to the editor(s) but this is the kind of list where you can actually influence the list. Now its counterproductive to just get on there and be fanboyish (or in my case tomboyishfangirliegirl) and whine that Joe or some other fav doesn't rank high enough.
You have to be reasonable considering the other artists and also have some evidence if not obvious. So where it still might end up being the most frustrating thing ever, from what i have read in these forums, most end up in some sort of agreement and or learn something new and/or become an editor yourself, lol

seriously, don't complain, fix it if its broke!

lets say some do participate and edit the lists, but alot of people don't know about them... so still they can't be no standard...

Re: What do you think of this Top?

It's just another list, and someone's opinion.  There's no objective way to do this.  Personally, I liked it for what it was.  Hard for me to argue w/ T-Bone Walker and BB King being right at the top, although I'm sure we could justify 10 of these guys being #1.  This list is miles above the Rolling Stone guitarist list, imho.

Cool to see Son Seals get a little love!
