Been trying for a while to catch Krissy Matthews, and when the chance came at my local R’n'B Club, had to take it.
Krissy did a shortened, acoustic set - one lad, a guitar and a set of dodgy braces, but he really impressed from the start. First couple of numbers, he showed a fine, “Delta” style picking technique and gradually turned it up to the fastest “Fulsom Prison Blues” you’ll ever hear. But it wasn’t all “flash” - Krissy has had one of his older songs reworked for the next album, and “Going South” really pulled something special out of him, as did his Spanish themed instrumental in tribute to a late friend of his.
Couple of new-songs-in-progress for the next album were aired, as well as Krissy re-visiting old covers from when he started-out (knee-high to a Marshall Amp), with improvised lyrics, as much due to the passing of time as a new found taste for real ale.
In short, powerful, physical performance with inspired flashes. Look forward to seeing the guy “electrified” next time in passing to get a better impression.

When life gives you lemons; don't make lemonade.
Give back the lemons. Why were the lemons free? What's wrong with the lemons?
Do Not trust the lemons...
