Re: RYAN MCGARVEY - FIRST UK TOUR MAY 2013

There is a lot of worthwhile gigs at the Beaverwood each year. Have been a few times as my sister stays in New Eltham.

Don't miss Chantel McGregor, King King or VATA. I would rather see these than well established artists nowadays, the tickets are much cheaper and the gigs more intimate.

Thanks very much for the heads up, I got a Chantel McGregor album; 'Like No Other' and at a glance sounds a tad 'poppy' in parts, but will investigate further. Though i did see her playing some pretty good Hendrix on Youtube. My copy of VATA's 'Radium' arrived yesterday and sounds superb (had it on at work today), I will be getting tickets for them this evening. I shall also check out King King in a while, as i know nothing of or about them at current. Really appreciate the advice, thanks, and best of all other than price, the venue is so close to me, provided my girlfriend will drive me that is, silly question perhaps but is there parking there?

Re: RYAN MCGARVEY - FIRST UK TOUR MAY 2013

Yes there is parking at the venue. Not a lot of spaces but there are nearby streets if the car park is full.

Chantel deliberately recorded some different songs for her album but her live show is not to be missed. Apart from her own material, she does amazing covers of Hendrix, Trower & Bonamassa.

King King is Alan Nimmo' s second band. You also need to check out The Nimmo Bros. Their album "Brother to Brother" is one of the best releases from last year.

One show I'm very glad about but not allowed to tell yet! Any ideas???'

I have an idea about the show (TBA) on 19 May. lol lol lol
But I have no idea what will be on 22 May.
Curious. Very curious ???

Re: RYAN MCGARVEY - FIRST UK TOUR MAY 2013

And I am also curious about 7th and 8th May. Is it 2 days off or another 2 UK gigs? If the latter and they are not far from Edinburgh so much the better.

Ain't that the truth, but i have discovered such a high number of great acts in such a short period of time, i'll take the financial deficit on the chin for now, or until i'm bankrupt i suppose. As well as giving Chantel McGregor further listening, i liked what i saw on Youtube, just a quick glance at the album, didn't seem to correspond with the impression i'd initially received.

Re: RYAN MCGARVEY - FIRST UK TOUR MAY 2013

Chantel also does an amazing "stripped-down" Metallica cover, so go figure.

King King are just an experience not to be missed; seen them do a couple of festivals, and you just have to feel sorry for any band who have to follow them on stage. All the more incredible is the fact they don't have a "fixed" drummer or keyboard players though Johnny Dyke seems to be the most frequent choice for the keys; Dale Storr and Bennett Holland contributed on the debut album. Drummers - Wayne Proctor and Dave Raeburn are names who have sat in, amongst others. Apart from Alan Nimmo, the only constant is Lindsay Coulson on bass (he's also manager). Speaking of albums, King King will be touring their new release in the spring.

The Beaverwood is way out of my area, but I know it's reputation for good bands, so keep an eye on Wooder's London Gig Guide for what's coming up. I'd recommend Billy Walton Band as one of the others due in the near future.

Thanks for the advice, i ordered the King King 'Take My Hand' album last night, look forward to checking out. The Billy Walton Band are support for Henrik Freischlader on the 29th January at the 100 Club which i shall be attending, so shall do my best to get there on time to catch them and see what they are all about. Cheers.

Well Tuesday nights (so the 7th) is Blues night at the legendary 100 club on Oxford Street, London, but i feel that is perhaps the wrong end of the country for your intentions. But he would go down a storm there i feel. And there is no one booked for that date yet. And obviously my suggestion is motivated by the fact that i'd be able to see him twice then at this end of the country.

Re: RYAN MCGARVEY - FIRST UK TOUR MAY 2013

Glasgow has a large number of venues and would be an ideal supplement to Edinburgh. Duncan can probably expand on this but suitable venues I can think of are :

Stereo
Nice n Sleazy
King Tuts
The Arches
The Ferry

Re: RYAN MCGARVEY - FIRST UK TOUR MAY 2013

Thanks Kenny will check them out. And sorry 100 club no good for then. But am making other enquiries about that.

Trying to make it all fit - and haven't got round to Wales yet!!!!

Maggie Mays would be a fantastic venue for Ryan!

Could always try The Cluny back in Newcastle if all else fails....  7th still seems to be available.
