So will someone confirm when Joe says "chuffed" it means happy, delighted, pleased? That's what I get from the context but was never sure.....

Yes Sally, I can confirm 
I think it is a term originating in the UK, my US friends are also blitzed by my term 'shithot' but when they use bloody it sounds like a compliment.

like "Pavement" instead of "Sidewalk", "Autumn" instea of "Fall", "taxi" instead of "Cab", "trousers" instead of "pants".
it might not be obvious but it is when i write like "centre" not "center"...

Yes Totally right, we've been captured by them, got our independance in 1946, so our English books have some British terms, but not as many as back in the days...
