I have barely been able to sleep all night! OH MY GOD! It was the most awesome experience ever! Seeing RCFP at the Baked Potato is like Joe coming to your house with his incredibly talented friends and jamming in your dimly lit basement while people scurry back and forth bringing you enormously decadent baked potatoes and stuff to drink. Rick, I can't thank you enough for this experience. We sat basically 3 ft away from Joe and the band. The songs were amazing and the jams just mind blowing. There is nothing quite like watching supremely talented musicians as they interact with each other during a song. The slight nod, a smile, a small gesture or turn of the body are the only communication needed as they play together to create musical masterpieces. They are truly artists at work.
It was also really cool to meet Joe for the first time. I was working up the courage as I squeezed past him to get to the bathroom. When I came out he was still standing there with some people and I introduced myself and shook his hand (glad I remembered to wash my hands )My husband and I also went up to him later as we were making the rounds to get the cd signed by everyone in the band. He actually chatted with us for a little while! I mean, there we were actually hanging out with Joe! It was just so incredibly cool. We saw Carmine as well and he patted us on the shoulder as if he had known us all along. The whole thing was truly mind blowing.
The other aspect of this that was wonderful was meeting Rick, Rocket, Front Row Fred, and all the others from this forum. It brought back memories of when we used to go on tour following the Grateful Dead and how we would meet up with all our friends at all the different shows. When Jerry Garcia died, a darkness definitely descended upon us. It was not only the end to my husband's most favorite music, but also the end of a socialization with people that didn't exist for us anywhere else. I am just so thankful that we found Joe and with him this amazingly kind and wonderful group of people who we now have a chance to interact with and call our friends. Looking forward to another show tonight as well as meeting others in Las Vegas, Baltimore, and Amsterdam.
And by the way, my husband did record the show on his iphone with the tascam recorder and we are listening to it right now and it sounds awesome!! When we get home he'll put it up on DIME.
