Topic: What kind of headphones do you use?
I'm in the market for some new headphones. Any recommendations? Which would be the best for Joe's music?

First off, headphones for...what? Phone? iPod? "Stereo"?
And then, where?! At home, on the go?
Brand names only, I am not a big fan of Bose speakers or headphones, but their headphones ARE good for air travel where noise cancelling is important. AKG, Sennheiser, Sony all have good to great products. I use Sennheisers for most everything and have no qualms about. JBL, my loudspeaker(s) of choice has some really good ones in the $80-$100 range, J55 or J55i being very good headphones.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for something to use with my iPod and computer. I went to Best Buy and they only had demo models of the Beats and Bose headphones. I wasn't that impressed with the construction of the phones for $200. I'll look into those Sennheisers.
I like AKG. The new Yamaha headphones aren't bad either.
I'd add brands such as Audio-Technica, Shure, and Beyerdynamic (also great).
But for about $100, Sennheiser HD 280 PRO are awesome. They are closed back, which is good for monitoring, as opposed to open back which are suited to studio / stage (performance) use, unless mic pickup of open-back headphone leakage could be an issue when tracking in the studio. There are incredible in ear offerings far beyond portable device included buds by the way...
Good Luck!

Sony Studio, but they're a bit aged however still sound great.

Just bought the Sennheiser HD 598. Can't wait to break them in. Thanks for the ideas.

Try this site, they are very good headphones.
beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm
Marshall headphones. Best I've had.
I use Sennheiser HD280 pro for tracking and monitoring when recording. They follow on from an odler set of Sennheiser HDs that last me about 15 years - incredibly neutral which was great. I also use Sennheiser CX500 for in ear isolation headphones. I have tracked with lots of pairs but these are what I'm using right now
I'm very happy with my Bose earbuds. Sennheiser though makes good headphones and I've got the hearing loss to prove it!
I use the Sennheiser HD 265 closed-type ones. They are the best closed type I 've ever heard in a pricerange, from that time, 300 guilders, now about 300 Euros. Unfortunately Sennheiser doesn't produce them anymore. After 14 years the wire was broken and the cushions were worn out. I bought some new Beyerdynamics Pro 770 but they were not as comfortable and didn't have that open sound as the HD 265, so I decided to repair the 265 (100 Euros) and they sound as new again and I use them every time. The 770 are good headphones but when you get used to the Sennheisers.......I think the 280 is the follow up from the 265, but I never heard them. For mobile use I use the AKG 430. Great one too.
