Re: John Mayer

NPB-do you like Jack's work with the Raconteurs? I enjoyed seeing them as Dylan's warm-up band.  Do you follow a band called MUSE?  The White Stripes seem to have captured the young crowd, I've given them some extra spins on the CD player since my 2 sons think Jack is a genius and we agree on most music...still trying to demystify them!  Jack's new Vintage Gretsch is beautiful..he's movin' on up from the Airline!

White Stripes, Dave Mathews, Flaming Lips, Wilco. If I had to pick my poison I would choose Mayer to drive me insane.

I did like his solo at Crossroads on his last song that I saw briefly.  I can only wish that his message board has as much Bonamassa as this message board has Mayer.

Message to John. If you want to be partly responsible for saving the blues then invite a guy named Bonamassa to tour with you.

Angela - I like the white stripes, back to basics - nothing is sacred.

also - john mayer's mesage board stinks, the people lack intellect.

jim m - Tommy Castro was opening for John Mayer for a bit, but I agree the Joe could fill the card.

A good G3 tour could be kws, jm and jb -

Re: John Mayer

I heard Steady as she Flows by Raconteurs, I dont have any other songs..  I don't think Jack White is a genius although the music is really good. I just think he plays what he knows and what sounds good to him. It's nothing musically advanced, but it creates good rocking songs. The minimalist approach is cool too. Meg White phone home!

Re: John Mayer

I was a little disappointed the first time I watched that video, I thought they could have done the song in an updated style.

This is my favorite version of Crossroads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNCiH37xAZM smile

I agree- I didn't think it was a very good version of the song overall... I was just talking about JM's solo- IMO one of his best solos in that song... plus its good to see so many people enjoying the blues- very good to see...

Re: John Mayer

Nice version of Crossroads Jess...  I still like the Cream version better though.

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: John Mayer

The best thing about John Mayer on Good Morning America was the advice he gave to kids, get off the computer and practice your guitar!!

Jess- Thanks for that other link to Scott Mc Keon...great version and I really liked watching his bass player...I love a bass player that shows some emotion and really gets into the music...too many bass players just do their job and stay in the background...Who is he?

And NPB-Jack White just made a movie and he plays Elvis!  I'm wondering if he had to take dance lessons to duplicate some of those early Elvis moves!  cool

I saw Steve Miller do a great version of Crossroads last Saturday night. He did a Cream like version but changed it up a bit. Also did a killer version of Buy Me a Mercury. Very short blues set this year actually just scattered a few throughout the set. Steve showed he can still play.

Common denominator between Clapton and Mayer. Same booking agency. Who is riding who's coattails depends on what demographic you are trying to capture. It is a marketing tool to sell. If along the way the blues makes new fans it's all good.

John solo was fine it was when he opened his mouth i wanted to hurl.

The best version I ever heard of Crossroads was a live performance by Eddie Van Halen on that radio show Rockline. Totally blew me away. Wonder if there's a way to get that recording. That was years ago though.

Yeah if you ever find that, Victor, I'd be happy to hear it too... should be interesting hearing EVH play some sick blues haha

Just a TV FYI ... John Mayer on David Letterman tonight (Friday 4/17/15)  11:35 EST

(Psss ... Anton ... how about one more Joe appearance ... (possibly on the main stage) ... as Dave begins his countdown to the end on May 20.)  A just thought of off topic side note ... May "21" (of '12) was Joe's appearance date.

Re: John Mayer

Have we kind of fallen out of love with John Mayer on here? (I know there's probably more current threads on the forum but this was the first to come up on search.)

I know in the Blues Guitar stakes he hasn't continued the momentum shown on the Try! album and while Born & Raised or Paradise Valley didn't exactly get a fanfare on their release, I don't recall even a mummer for last month's release for The Search For Everything.

Shame really because while it doesn't set the ear hairs alight, it is certainly a well-chilled album, from the opening Soul of Still Feel Like Your Man to the Appalachian Celtic of In The Blood. John does wind the guitar up on several tracks, especially Helpless and one of my album favourites Love On The Weekend.
