And then there was one.  Michigan, Duke and Wyoming all went down this weekend leaving overrated Louisville the country's only unbeaten.  The first 20 minutes of IU's game against Minnesota was textbook basketball that commentator Gus Johnson said was the best he'd seen in ten years.  Too bad the Hoosiers played awful in the second half and narrowly won.  Gophers are a darn good team and I wouldn't want them in March on a neutral court.

Aztecs escaped a nail biter in ot after blowing a big lead and had to rely on a flu stricken player who stepped up and clutched. A lot of tough teams out there this year!

I stand corrected - and then there were none.  Louisville lost earlier to the Dookies without their top player.  Indiana's '76 team remains the last undefeated team for another year.

Forget the past. This year's Hoosiers squad is the most balanced out there right now.  #1 in my rankings.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Huge upset I watched last night as Wisconsin's D held down the Hoosiers. A repeat of our big regional rivalry tonight as Aztecs face the Rebs here. Our frosh top recruit Shepherd is coming around and showing some skills (as well as youthful stupidity) but I'm not too confident about the outcome tonight. UNLV is very good. Bill should be tuned in.
Rick
Bill's Running Rebs were very good and Aztecs shot cold on treys. Shepherd had a career night though and things are looking up. The flu put a couple of our usually good shooters off and that was that. Good game Bill.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Sorry Rick. But, WHAT A GREAT GAME! The Rebels looked like the Rebels, shooting from inside and outside with just a few unforced turnovers. The depth in the Rebels bench really paid off.  Any road win in the MWC is hard. This win was huge. The Rebels were due for a big win on the road. Rick, Franklin, Shepard  and Tapley were great for the Aztecs and great from the line thanks to our fouling problems. Another hot shooter for the Aztec’s, and this would be another story. We have our tickets for the rematch. It will be another great game as always.

Take care,
Bill

Yes Bill, that was a great game. Your big men came through and the outside shooting was the difference. News is now the Aztecs will remain in the MWC as the deal with the other conferences fell out as the smaller schools dropped out of the east. We'll have that great conference rivalry for a good long time. We'll get a chance in Vegas. smile

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

I know we don't have a very good team, but Bama went in to Starkville last night and destroyed Miss State. They allowed the bulldogs only 43 points. We are 2-1 in the SEC start, but next up are Texas A&M and then Kentucky, then we'll be 2-3. lol Both games are at T-town so I'm hoping for some miracles.

Razorbacks beat Auburn 88-80. Arkansas is 11-5 and 2-1 in conference so far. Mike Anderson looks like he's got them going in the right direction. There are many times that you start to see 40 Minutes of Hell is coming back. Pressing, trapping, fast-break and run and gun style of basketball. Marshawn Powell and BJ Young are big-time players. They might be a bubble team come March. I can only hope. smile But they've got to learn to win on the road, you can't play all your games at Bud Walton.

Mike is a great coach and will serve them well. The win over AU was a good one, but they went to double overtime and it was at Fayetteville. I think Auburn is much improved over previous years, for some reason they always give Bama a tough game.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

nobody has anything to say about Saturday? It was certainly a wacky day with Louisville, OSU, SDSU, and UNLV all going down. The Butler win made for some exciting hoops TV. Looks to me like Florida should get a crack at #1 now, destroying Texas A&M and Mizzou back to back. They are hitting on all cylinders. Bama got a nice 2nd half finish and hit one at the buzzer to defeat Texas A&M at home. We were down 26-15 at end of the first half. The Trevor boys, Lacey and Releford both had a good game. Back down to earth now, Wildcats come to T-Town tomorrow night.

I think Mercury was in retrograde. Aztecs hit the high country in Laramie and produced their worst game ever. They had a bushel of bricks and managed just NINE points in the first period against a so-so team that was missing thier star. Go figure.... All the hot teams seemed to be stubbing toes, but SDSU broke a leg with that stinker, I hope it was an aberration but there's some work to be done. Glad your team had a decent effort.

My Hoosiers continue to under achieve.  Can't seem to finish off teams and are starting to look very vulnerable.

Bah!  Mere collateral triflings when playing in the Big 10 this year! Roughest, toughest competition.  Let's see what OSU is made of tomorrow.  I would be only mildly surprised if they lost at home.  That should quell nervousness about not quite having it all together "yet", if it happens Curby...

Alabama?  Upset time?  Hmmm.  Not good?  Better than perceived.

SDSU was over-ranked has proved out.  Conference is on watch upsies for grabs.  New Mexico State is an obvious prime target. wink

Just do not rank SU #1 Poh-lice!  Historically cruising sweet in January leads to wars of perdition in the Big Yeast Conference Big February Chilly Cook Off.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Rocket.  Definitely our league is very tough.  I also agree that Alabama has got a solid team this year and will make the tournament.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Congrats to Tres and his team beating UK last night.  A defensive struggle from the start and it was a team effort that won it for Bama.  Kentucky looks like a team without a shred of chemistry.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

thanks, they finally got it together in the 2nd half. Bama is now 4-1 in SEC play, pretty good start. Wildcats looked very confused on offense, too many turnovers. We don't score very well but if we hold opponents to under 60 at least have a chance at the end. On to Knoxville on Sat, tough place to play.

That's more like it! A once again healthy Aztecs crushed the hottest team in the MWC as they D'ed the UNM Lobos into the tank 55-34  in their house. Back on track again.
