I heard Joe on the radio for the first time yesterday, it was a GREAT feeling. On the first note, I knew it was Joe and Black Night started! It was especially cool to look at the navigation screen and see Joe's name there...and on John Lee Hooker's birthday!!! (sirius #74)
Black Night is a killer song, loving it along with Sloe Gin, Dirt...Another Kind of Love is awesome...Seagull, Richmond, Hammer...really loving the entire CD...still playing constantly and absorbing it!
Any thoughts on what song is likely to appeal to standard rock radio? (non-satellite)
If 'Dirt In My Pocket' doesn't get Regular Rotation on Radio Stations thru out
North America its a Crime.......

I've got to agree on Dirt In My Pocket. If you put a water pistol to my head, my list would look something like this, but it's subject to change.
1/ Dirt In My Pocket
2/ Ball Peen Hammer
3/ Seagull
4/ Sloe Gin
5/ One of These Days
6/ Another Kind of Love
7/ Black Night
8/ Richmond
9/ Jelly Roll
10/ India
11/ Around the Bend
Ask me 5 minutes from now and the list will probably be different. And I like the ones at the bottom, just not quite as much as the ones higher up.
Well I finally got it today! Didn't get to give it my full attention being in the car with the kids but from my first listen my favorite right now is Seagull. Hopefully later on tonight I can give it another listen in peace and quiet.
I love Seagull!!!! That is my favorite song Joe has ever done!!!!!!!!!
I can't get enough of it! I sat here and listened to it last night over and over again for almost an hour- yeah im addicted to it!

Seagull. I remember seeing Bad Company at Olympia in London when I was in my teenage years.....sooooooo long ago , probably in the 70's. The whole backline and PA power died so Paul Rogers put on his acoustic and played Seagull. The audience was so quiet you could've heard a pin drop.....remember, there was no PA and Olympia was huge but the song carried way up into the rafters, Paul Rogers' voice soaring over our heads. The memory still gives me goosebumps!!. On the same bill that day were Ronnie Lanes Slim Chance, Pretty Things, Be Bop Deluxe and Nazareth. Flared patchwork jeans and tie-dye t-shirts all over the place....hippy days
gsj- I haven't heard anyone mention Pretty Things in years!! I'm gonna' dig "Silk Torpedo" out of my vinyl collection this weekend, if the grooves aren't worn out...I remember playing that a lot!! I was thinking about the hippy days yesterday, pot and booze are still HUGE on the college campus, the kids just look way more clean cut...as they say, can't judge a book by its cover!

i love sloe gin, thats so great!!
hope that somewhere soon the lyrics will appear, so i can translate them for me an know what joe exactly sing about in his new songs.
First off, it's his best album to date, hands down! There is just enough of everything to satisfy my needs. I love shredders more than anything, but I love to mix it up, probably to give my one good ear a break. Heres my preference, and by the way "Black Night" hit me hard the very first time played.
1) Black Night
2) One of These Days
3) Sloe Gin
4) Another Kind of Love
5) Ball Peen Hammer
6) Dirt in My Pocket
7) Jelly Roll
8) Seagull
9) Around the Bend
10) Richmond
11) India
The first 4 are set in stone, the next 4 can be mixed, the last 3 stay
"some were small and some were cute" are another way of saying I've had some real good ones...see if you can figure out the rest!!! Probably not and I may not be anywhere near the truth with what I think, but offline I can discuss during seekly chats....I am guessing this CD has very personal autobiographical or semi-autobiographical implications for and from Joe.

Yeah anyone who has the time and energy please post what you think the lyrics are. I will as I get to them. we're working on Richmond in the other thread.
I found it interesting in Around the Bend, he sings "some were small and some were cute" when I think the other version said "some were false and some were true" which imo was a better line.
I have only heard, seagull, sloe gin, another kind of love... is there anyway to listen to the old previews?
This is definatley Not my favourite album of his, my favourite song is probably another kind of love and seagull. I kinda miss his guitar playing, I think theres too little solos! His blazing solos is what made me fall in love with his guitar playing. Nothing beats the A new day yesterday, it's my favourite album of all time/artists/eternity and It will be interesting to see if Joe will ever live up to those standards again. But aside from the solos this album has fantastic ''sing songs'' as I call them, where the focus isn't on solos.
1. Another kind of love
2. Seagull
3. Sloe Gin
Ball Peen Hammer
Jelly Roll
Around the Bend
One of These Days
Seagull
Dirt In My Pocket
Black Night
Richmond
Another Kind of Love
Sloe Gin
India
Oh, I guess thats all of them.

I know what you're talking about- but it is refreshing to listen to an album from Joe that is more about the song than the guitar- its great listening to Joe play guitar, but I think his acoustic playing is outstanding and he really shows his musicianship on these songs too...
just my .02

I can't rank 1-11. Some I like very well. Others I hope to warm up to. In the top are:
Ball Peen Hammer
Dirt in my Pocket
One of These Days
Black Night
Another Kind of Love
Less favorite
Around the Bend
Jelly Roll
Sloe Gin
India
Richmond
Seagull
actually upon hearing it few more times..the guitar is there in amazing spots..Sloe Gin is one of his top songs ever..Black Night...the solos are more soulful than just shred as maybe they were in the past.he certainly has matured in the few years I have been a fan....what a great catalog of music he has in first 6 cds

Joe,
I agree with you, I like India. I love all the really cool acoustics you've mastered in this CD. Richmond,Seagull and India are in the top for me. This is a great CD, reaches deep for me and I LOVE IT!
Thank you for all your hard work to bring this part of yourself to us, Joe.
Rest when you can and we look forward to SRV in Oct. Love to see you and Jim mix it up.
Take care,
Cion
