Topic: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

Got a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele for Christmas! This thing is just amazing. I have the Vintage Blonde finish. It sounds incredible, plays great with a set of 11-54s, and it just looks sick! Squier really hit it it of the park with this beast. It's my first Tele and it might be one of the best ones I've ever played.

In my band, I play a lot of Alt Rock (think Switchfoot, Matchbox Twenty, U2) and its perfect.

I'll have pics up in the next few days

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

I too have always thought these were great looking guitars.  Congrats!

Gibson 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Reissue, Gibson LP Standard Faded CSB, Gibson Gary Moore LP Standard, Epi Joe Bonamassa GT LP, Epi Zakk Wylde LP, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Jackson Randy Rhoads V, ESP/LTD George Lynch Kamikaze, EVH Striped Series R/B/W, Fender/Squire John 5 Telecaster, Fender Joe Strummer Relic Telecaster

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

They are some really great guitars from Squire.  The body is pine, but Leo back in the day made the old Broadcasters (which is a Telecaster that they got in trouble with the name over) out of pine bodies, and if you go with some of the old growth body guitars and pay a lot of money for them what are they?  Yep pine.  Are you standard tuning with those heavy strings?  If so please tell me you play mostly rhythm and don't bend a lot.  That's got to be hell on those tendons in your wrists.

I'm the lead guitarist in my band and yes, I'm using standard tuning and I do a lot of bending. I'm at the point where I can do a 1.5 step bend with 13s.  I had/still kinda have mild carpal tunnel.

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

Dang dude, I gotta hand it to you thats impressive.  Just remember you're not going to be young forever.  I know I know the tone of those big strings is so much better then with 10 or 9's, but tomorrow on New Years I'm going to be 31 and I've been playing since I was 17.  I have to stretch my fingers on both hands for 10 minutes just to get the speed I had when I was 21.  If I play for more then 3 hours my joints start to hurt and my wrists start to cramp.  I was a Fender man for years but switch this year to Gibson's because the shorter scale necks played so much easier.  Fenders without floating bridges I've moved down to a .009 string, and my strats I've moved to floating bridges to keep my .010!  My thumb goes numb all the time on my left hand even when I'm not playing.  My point is I wish I had done something sooner before I let my hands get as bad as they are.  I have no idea how old you are or how long you've been playing but remember to stretch before and after you play and consider dropping that string gauge, because you're not going to get any younger and longevity is the key to everything in life.  Its not going to help you're mild carpal tunnel.  Just some words of love from a fellow brother.

Thanks man. Yeah I probably should go back to 10's. I'm only 16 and there will be consequences later in life so that alone is a good reason haha.

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

You being a Bonamassa fan should also know that Joe once said he uses .011 gauge strings on his Les Pauls because he worked his way up to them not really because one of his favorite players used heavy strings.  "Its not a test of man hood."  Hey Billy Gibbons uses .007 strings and his heavy gauge is .008! lol.  Anyways stay young and keep rocking!

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

It looks quarter sawn on the back.  Thats a good thing.  Thats where the grain is cut straight up and down so the neck can be its strongest  to work with the truss rod.  Lets see those strings try to warp that!

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

Yeah haha. I love this thing. It holds tune perfectly and the intonation is spot-on with the stock saddles

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

I think she's a keeper!

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

For sure. It's gonna be sharing the #1 spot with my Strat

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

My brother has one of these. Claims if plays as nice or better than american teles.
I have to admit, they feel and sound nice as most teles. Though I go 10's on Gibsons, I would have to put 9's on the tele.

Yeah I'm gonna switch to a set of 10-52 on it and see how that feels. They do play really great out of the box. The only thing I would do to it would be swapping the neck pickup for something with more output.

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

Have you tried a humbucker in a telecaster neck position?  Its awesome smile

Re: NGD Squier Classic Vibe

I started winding pickups a couple years ago and can do a neck tele for you if you want. $55 for bonamassa friends cool
