Topic: Martin Barre's New Day

I saw this band last week and thoroughly enjoyed them. Martin Barre and Pat O'May played some fabulous lead guitar ably assisted by a great bass player (Hilaire ??), drummer (didn't catch his name), vocalist (Dan Crisp) and a crazy multi-brass/wind instrumentalist called Frank.

They played a mixture of new arrangements of old Jethro Tull songs, Martin Barre's solo material and some of Pat O'May's compositions so it was a really mixed set.

MB made a lovely tribute to Joe and they played an impressive version of "Steal Your Heart Away" which was a great surprise and a highlight of the set...as if that were not enough, MB and Dan Crisp came out after the interval and performed the most beautiful version of "Still Loving You Tonight" just on acoustic and electric guitars (that is my favourite Jethro Tull song and I was keeping my fingers crossed that they would play it as there is such a great guitar part in it!!).

They have been added to my Alerts List for future reference.

Re: Martin Barre's New Day

thanks for the report. I just went on Utube and listened to them doing Teacher, and I have to say that Pat's vocals are simply horrendous. I am a Tull freak and always will be, Martin is a class act and highly underrated (we say that about so many here), or underappreciated whatever. It's not that it isn't Ian singing it, not at all. I know for a fact I can sing that better than Pat. Maybe he was just having a bad night.

Re: Martin Barre's New Day

Martin is a gem of a guitarist and plays with real style. He is obviously enjoying a new lease of life after Tull. I went with my youngest son (Andrew Pipe guitar player of The Mentulls) to see Martin and his band at The Robin 2 a couple of weeks and really enjoyed the gig. Looking forward to his gigs next year. He is playing at Fairport Convention's Cropredy Festival in August.

Re: Martin Barre's New Day

welcome to the forum Pat. I see now that you are one of the guitarists, not sure how I came to that conclusion but I apologize for getting it wrong. We have a lot of artists here and it's good to have another git player on board. Please give Martin and the band best regards from a long time fan. I first saw them live on American Bandstand with Dick Clark. Feel free to hang around and give us some updates now and then on what you guys are doing.
