Topic: I'm snowed in!

12 inches have fallen this morning and the city's in a state of emergency.  Tried to take my wife to work and her place was closed too.  Only the boy is working at his cinema job and I'll have to get him this evening.

That said I'm thinking about de-fragging my computer and does anyone know the sequence for Windows XP?  I also have an external hard-drive to put my music on.  Has anyone done this for iTunes and how does it work after you delete your music on your computer?  Do you have to transfer any new downloads and how would you do your playlists?  Any help would be appreciated.

Re: I'm snowed in!

As said above, system tools for defrag. For itunes I use icloud, works brilliantly, all devices synced and no hard drive space used up. I did once trasnfer s library o another PC and got in a right mess. This was a while back so assume it is easier now.

Thanks Reem.  I have to ask - are you serving in the Military in Jordan?  I grew up on military bases as a kid.  My dad was a Colonel is the Medical Service Corps.  Wouldn't trade my childhood for anything.

no i'm not serving in the military... there was this law that everybody (or only boys) older than 18 should serve for 3 months, but i don't know what happend to this law! i think they should have left this law active. but i don't think i can serve because you only have to have a Jordanian nationality to serve and i have two a jordanian and a bulgarian (my Mom's Bulgarian), so i can't...

Re: I'm snowed in!

I'm not snowed in anymore, but I thought I was going to have a heart attack a bit ago.  Yesterday I transfered all my music onto an exterior hard drive.  It took nearly 8 hours.  I had to do it cause I was getting low memory/disk space alerts all the time and my old Sony was getting as slow as a typical waiter these days.  This morning I checked the new folder and randomly verified the music was indeed on the external hard drive.  I then deleted the old music folder off my computer.
After all that was done I then did a defragment on my C drive.  About 46% through I left the house for 30 minutes.  When I got back my computer mouse was locked up, but it was still defragging.  When the job was complete I had to call in the Calvary (son Quinn) to shut off the PC.  When I restarted it the mouse was back to working, but about a minute in the external hard drive started making a noise like there something living in it.  It wouldn't stop till I opened up My Computer.  When I got it opened my Hitachi drive (the EHD with all my freaking music on it) was gone!!!!!  I opened up iTunes and the songs were gone.  At that point as I had my hand on my chest I recalled Martin commenting on something disastrous happening when he messed with iTunes, but I didn't panic.  I unplugged the usb from the Hitachi and plugged it into the top port and prayed.  God answered my prayers.
Never an effing dull moment in Curby's world.
Thanks Reem for your brother's help.  The old girl should hang in there for another year.

...hey Curby! ...more people die from heart attacks shovelling the white stuff than transferring data... just remember that when the next deluge arrives bud!

Nope.  Nothing was touched - history, playlists, etc.  The default is the new hard drive.
