Topic: Favourite Books and Authors.

i read alot of books! mostly novels and science things. recently i've been reading the Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child, anyone read any of those books? they're so good!
my friend forced me to try and read some pshycological things but i prefer Novels way better (but not romance or horror!). i guess pshycological things didn't get to me because i don't believe books can tell you how you think, or how you live. i prefer science books with common sense and facts. and i read science fiction, too.
so any of you guys would like to share what kind of books and authors you prefer?

Re: Favourite Books and Authors.

I'm a big fan of Lee Child too, I've read the first 15 Jack Reacher books. I also like Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin, Stuart MacBride, Harlan Coben, Clive Cussler, Simon Kernick, Robert Ludlum and many others!

Re: Favourite Books and Authors.

I'm a big fan of Nordic Noir, in particular Jo Nesbo, Henkel Manning, Arnaldur Indriðason, Steig Larsson etc. I love the gloomy backdrop, the pace and the social aspects to the books.

I was raised on Lord of the Rings, so I enjoy different fantasy authors, but have also read practically every Stephen King out there. Don't like the really gross ones, but love his character development and imagination.  Also like Steig Larson, Michael Chabon, Richard Russo and John Irving. Generally only read fiction.

Just started reading Lee Child's Nothing To Lose.  Pretty good.  What is your favorite of book of his?

Duncan, you need to read Peter Straub's  trilogy.  The Throat is an awesome book on its own.

Re: Favourite Books and Authors.

one of America's cultural gifts to the world is its literature of course John Steinbeck, and the Grapes of Wrath should be read by everybody. Been a long fn of John Irving; "A Prayer for Owen meaner", "Widow for one year" "The fourth hand"... I could go on...A recent one that I found was M Glen Taylor, - "The Ballard of Trenchmouth Taggart" - brilliant read.
British author, - Sebastian Faulkes, "Birdsong", superb World war 1 read.

Re: Favourite Books and Authors.

I'm a big fan of Lee Child's Jack Reacher books too. That being said; there is NO WAY I'm going to see the new Reacher movie which comes out today. Reacher is 6' 4", 230 lbs. Casting Tom Cruise to play Reacher may excite TC fans but Reacher fans are NOT happy.

Re: Favourite Books and Authors.

Agreed.  Casting Tom Cruise to play Jack Reacher makes about as much sense as when they cast Morgan Freeman to play Alex Cross.  Hollyweird is so stupid.

Re: Favourite Books and Authors.

I'm not a habitual reader by any means, but once I dig into a good book I tend to become a bit compulsive and plow through them. I like an odd mix; Hunter S. Thompson, H.D. Thoreau, Richard Bach, Carlos Castaneda, C.S. Lewis and the Bible.

Told you it was an odd mix!

Have you checked out Stephen Hunter's Bob Swagger novels.  Point Of Impact was made into the movie Shooter.  Hunter is better than Child imho.

Re: Favourite Books and Authors.

I have not.  Will check it put.  Thanks for the tip.

I remember you were a Castaneda fan too. I did more reading for recreation as a younger man than I do now. I tend to read nonfiction now but Tolkien was my favorite author and like you I seem to like books by the same author. Even though Castaneda was not supposed to be non fiction it seemed like fantasy almost. Have you read them all?
