Brothers in Arms  - yes of course. The timbre of Mark K voice hear will choke me every time
The River - Springsteen. Don'tknow why. Its deep seated. Those opening bars.....
Long Lost Friend - Dave Mason. Must have some deep resonance for me,by his wonderful closing solo I'm wasted

A new one for my latest misery...

You already know - Train.
A song out there that completely describes what has just happened to me, the irony being it was a track off HER album. If it was written from personal experience I am grateful I'm not the only idiot out there.........

Re: Songs that bring you to tears!

One tune does it for me, James Taylors Sweet Baby James. It didn't have such an impact till 5/8/89, the day my son was born. Shortly after we brought him home I played it as I rocked him to sleep in my arms, his Mom had to take him before I soaked him with tears! It still gets me to this day and probably always will. I saw Bruce Hornsby here in the Bay Area shortly after Jerry Garcia had passed and when he played Sugaree in Jerry's memory there wasn't a dry eye in the house. If I'm in the right mood that one gets me still occasionally.

Funny you mentioning Patty Griffin.  At the end of the credits in the movie Elizabethtown, Patty sings the most haunting version of "Moon River", a song that I'll long remember my Mother for as it was one of her favorite songs.  I was able to play this version for her before she passed and she just loved Patty's soulful interpretation.  I'll bet I heard that song a million times growing up, many with Mom singing along, but it wasn't till this version that I actually felt the true meaning of the words.

Re: Songs that bring you to tears!

'The Long and Winding Road' by the Beatles. And I prefer the original Spector'd version.

Re: Songs that bring you to tears!

i see many of us have "Sloe Gin" in common! most songs only make me cry once and very rarely twice, but "Sloe Gin" makes me cry everytime i hear it! same goes to "Brothers in Arms"...

Several songs from Pink Floyd that my aged brain won't let me remember the names of!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Songs that bring you to tears!

What does it for me is John Prine's "Hello In There".

Re: Songs that bring you to tears!

Bruce Springsteen "The Promise"

Re: Songs that bring you to tears!

+1.....and also his Angel (Footsteps).
Lowell George - I Can't Stand the Rain......even with the upbeat sounding horns it's still very sad, and I miss him.
