Topic: Orlando 12/10/2012

This will be the 3rd time I've seen JB in the last 4 years, and the first time w/ Tal on drums.  It's also the first time at the bigger, nicer Bob Carr center.  The previous times I saw him he was at the Plaza, which is also a good venue, just smaller.

Wow.  I dont know how he does it, but every time I've seen Joe he gets better, and the show gets better.

Loved the acoustic intro set.  I thought the DTTD tunes he played worked well on an acoustic, and it was a nice way to warm up.

Loved the Slow Train intro for the electric set.  It really got the crowd pumped.  Sounded great on the Firebird.

He did "Dust Bowl" early on, and his solo was one of the coolest I've ever heard him do.  Really jazzy, very dynamic, and very different from the record.

I absolutely loved his funky version of "Look Over Yonder Wall."  Really unique.

His "Just Got Paid Today" medley closer was a blast, and I loved the nod to Whitesnake.  Hilarious and fun.

Overall I was struck by 1) how different the arrangements were compared to either previous tours or the recorded versions and 2) the diversity of tone.  The band had such great dynamics, bringing it up and down.  Every song took you on a journey.  You just can't put on a better show.  It's amazing to see an artists (and band) grow so much in only a couple years, especially when they were simply great to begin with.

His guitar playing was, as usual, a freaking clinic.  He was just so ON.  Tal was amazing as well, and I loved the fact that he got a drum solo.  It added to the diversity of the set and he made it a lot of fun.  Carmine and Rick were spot on as always.  I think the crowd was a little more into it and rowdy than at the Plaza, which is a little odd since it's a more "upscale" venue with more expensive drinks. smile Still, it's a testament to Joe and the band - the definitely brought it, and the crowd (myself included) ate it up.

One of the best shows I've ever seen, and just a little notch above his show at the Plaza a year or two ago.  It's crystal clear why Joe is such a great guitar player and musician - he never settles.  If he were as good as he was 3-4 years ago, he'd be great.  But year-in, year-out he just keeps getting better.  Pretty amazing, actually.

It was a great show....the 4th or 5th time I've seen Joe.  His playing last night was the best I've ever seen him play.  Got to meet hiim before the show too which was very cool.

My first show and WOW!  Knew I was in for an amazing evening but ... WOW!  Best of all, I'm a pro photographer and got a photo pass and will, after permission, post what I can.  I don't know every JB song and just LOVED the song he played with the black guitar that had a mirror front.  It was smooth and melodic, haunting and wonderful.  Beyond that, my daughter (22 and appreciative of Joe's talent but not into Blues like me) could do nothing but laugh she was so blown away.  Think my favorite may have been his nod to Gary Moore with Midnight Blue...just beautiful.  Thanks Rachael for the photo pass and I'll have those images on their way shortly.

Glad you enjoyed the show!  The black guitar is used on "Mountain Time", classic song indeed.

Music is good for the Soul...

Were you the one right up against the stage?  I saw you up there during the acoustic set and thought "what a lucky dude!"  Glad you enjoyed the show, it was something special.

Re: Orlando 12/10/2012

I've seen Joe every year for the last handful of years and I have to say that was the best show yet!

For me, the latest version of TBOJH is the best version yet. It rocked all the way through. Wee Wee Hours was great and Sloe Gin was radically different (great version).

A couple of clips from the 7th row directly in front of Joe's mike.

Re: Orlando 12/10/2012

I've seen Joe over 20 times since 2006, and these new shows are the best I've seen. The sound is outstanding, the setlist is varied, the light show is cool, and the band is great. We are seeing one of the best live performers and guitarists in his prime, and it is a priveledge to see. He's still improving...

Re: Orlando 12/10/2012

Yuppers, that was me!  Best of all, I sat in the sixth row stage right and got just as good shots the rest of the evening, all evening long.  Most memorable and, sad to say, the end of saving for retirement I'm afraid...Gotta go again (too busy for Melbourne tonight or else I'd be there too!).

Re: Orlando 12/10/2012

Thanks for the reviews! Making me all the more anxious for my turn. To those new to Joe's live act: Life will not be the same now. tongue

Well Joe and the boys may have brought some wild weather with them to Florida, but it sounds like it just ramps up their performances. So jealous, but happy for you wink  Cathy

Re: Orlando 12/10/2012

Next year maybe the Orlando JB forumites can meet up before the show.

Split71,
Thanks for the vids!
Saw Joe in Jacksonville on the on the 9th, I was wondering if you knew what make the acoustic guitars were?
I didn't recognize the logo.
My favorite guitar was the L-5 CES, at least that's what I think it was?

Re: Orlando 12/10/2012

He's favored Alvarez acoustics for the last year or so. That one in the vid isn't his Yairi model but that looks like the Alvarez label.
