Topic: Anders Osborne

Last year I was watching Mike Zito in Owensboro, Kentucky and he asked the crowd if they'd heard of the producer/musician on his new album, Anders Osborne.  I was the only one who raised his hand and told him Anders was a troubedour from New Orleans.  Zito seemed pleased.

I've listened to Osborne on and off over the years and acknowlege him as a very gifted songwriter guitarist.  He put out an album this past summer called Black Eye Galaxy which is very good and personal.  Seems he's battled his demons with addiction and has laid his life within the songs on the album.  My favorite drummer, Stanton Moore, plays in his band and some of the songs have that crunchy, White Stripes met Zeppelin heft.  I'm adding a couple vids of him, but instead of album cuts I'm including stripped down versions captured outdoor.  Just Anders and his guitar and nature.  Pretty cool I think and a guy worth checking out versus the usual suspects here.

Here's the album version of "Black Tar".  What a stomp!

Re: Anders Osborne

I first heard him randomly in a music store in New Orleans in jazz fest (played just before Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown did an acoustic set, which was also really cool and who I actually went there to see).  He was great, and I've managed to catch him live a couple time since.

Haven't heard much of his recent work, although Smokestack Lightnin played a couple tunes from one of his recent albums... not sure if it was Black Eye Galaxy...

Anyways, yeah, he's cool.  Thanks for the links.

Hear's a vid featuring Stanton on drums.  I tink you'll unnerstan my love for Mr. Moore.
