Topic: What will the world do with Joe?

Times are hard in the world today for hot guitarists like Joe.  How can he get a break? Classic rock stations won't play anything unless it's 20 years old, or is recorded by a classic artist. Alternative stations won't play Joe because he doesn't sound like Fall out Boy. He's too hard for country, and top-40 stations--well let's just not go there.

So what is left is adult contemporary. These stations play the likes of John Mayer and Jack Johnson, so that's Joe's best bet.  The new album may not rock like Blues Deluxe, but we already have a Blues Deluxe. This album stands right up there with anything John Mayer has done, and deserves to be played extensively on adult contemporary stations. I know we all like to go see Joe at a club or indian gaming hall, but come on, he deserves much better!! 

Some decent radio airplay combined with a couple of top-notch videos and Joe should get the recognition (and money) he has worked so very hard for. When the masses come see him live, they will be blown away!

Good, much less GREAT doesn't necessarily get you the proverbial 'pat on the butt' in this world. Joe doesn't seem to be much of a leg humper, or a pragmatic A&R commercial weenie, so there may always be some hang up or another. "Celebrities", in general, are mostly a bunch of junked-up dorks anyway. If somebody wasn't changing their Huggies for them all the way along, we'd never have heard of them.

Not that it would ever be allowed to happen, but I'd love to see Joe castrate John Mayer with his guitar live onstage somewhere, OR EC. As TRUE fans, it shouldn't matter to any of us if Joe ever gets to be 'Prom Queen' anyway.

what we do is all chip in for a radio station and then we can play anything we like on there . we can have the 4th of july joe bonamassa rock fest and play joe for 72 hours straight ..i'll put in the first few thousand to get the ball rolling .joe

From what people have said here I am in the minority of Joe fans who actually really like alot of today's (pop) country. I don't listen that much anymore but when I listen to many Joe songs I think they should put this on WPOC - the popular country station here.
I think those sort of listeners would love stuff thats got a bit more talent and not cookie cutter country as well. Problem is those channels seems to be even more corporate playlist-ish than others.

I still think the folks who listen to classic rock stations would love joe's music if given the chance - its getting the chance that they need so I have not given up trying to convince the local one here to open their definition of classic. It kills me they will play new tunes from artists who's classics they play - like they played the new Eagles, Bob Segar, Aerosmith, and Tomm Petty but thats it.

I think keep saying your preference and encouraging others to do the same will make a difference. Why should we let other people be the deciders for us???????? They always will if we stay silent.

anyway I think Joe will be alright if he does as he has, grow his fan base one by one, and it is much more solid that way but I do believe the world needs the joy of the music and I hope they all get to discover it and it starts a big smilie wave across the globe.

You hit the nail on the head. It's natural to wonder why your favorite artist isn't getting the recognition YOU think he/she deserves. My impression of Joe has been that he tried the corporate route and didn't like it. So he decided to go his own way and at his own pace. In interviews he has said he'd be happy being a middle-tier artist performing at small venues. I think if he really wanted to do the star trip he could hire management that would make sure it happened.

I'd love to see Joe get the mega-rewards that top stars get but I'm also thankful he stays "small" because I get to go to so many shows and even speak to him afterwards. Try doing that with a big mega-star. smile

Hi Tim and thanks for joining the forum. I agree with the ladies. Joe is only 30 and he has done so much already. He's a wise young man. He is also the youngest member of the Board of Directors of the Blues Foundation. He is also active in the "Blues in the Schools" program. Yet, there is a debate re "What is Blues?", and it seems the blues/rockers have a harder time gaining acceptance than Zydeco!!!! That's the wall I bang my head against! Record stores are going obsolete as the internet replaces them. We've only scratched the surface. People have come to this site after seeing a clip of Joe on youtube..The future is bright and Captain Joe has his ship under control..........Cathy

With Cap'n Joe at the helm I'm glad I have joined the crew. This ship will sail and sail gaining momentum until it storms the oceans of commerciality and brings on board those who have yet to realise how good our Cap'n is. Aharrrrrr me hearties!

Welcome Tim, hope to meet you at a show soon. You've got to meet this guy Shredit, I understand he's the postmaster somewhere in Sacto. and he's the top softball player in Norcal. He must be some superhuman or something. Why don't you just call yourself 5to4to3??? TTYL.
