How bout them Butler Bulldogs? They tried to give it away at the very end, NC defensive pressure was causing serious problems. Butler's freshman, I forget his name, is a real sharpshooter from 3 land. They beat up the Tar Heels on the boards in the first half, great win for their program.
Indiana got a real break at the end of regulation, that could have been called a charge. However I don't know if the Hoyas were in the bonus, and the clock was down near 0. Good win in the OT, Tom will take that.
Georgia gave UCLA everything they didn't want and then some, pretty decent team even if Indiana spanked them.

Tres - Indiana didn't spank the Bulldogs.  I thought Georgia played some inspired ball against both teams and will only get better from here.  As for my Hoosiers, I find it remarkable that we out-rebounded the Hoyas with three of our big men out of the lineup.  Georgetown is certain to rise in the rankings and I'm glad we got the win.  If our two suspended players were playing last night like Shabazz was we would've won a lot bigger.  I'll add a video of Hanner to emphasize.....

Only person that can do this other than Hanner is Dwight Howard.  Incredible, and a must watch.  This kid is flat out scary....

Has a 7'4' wingspan.  IU passed on a kid from DeMatha H.S. in Maryland that's 6'9" tall, 270lbs and has a 7'9" wingspan.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

IU looking quite formidable! Curby is grinning ear to ear methinks.
Aztecs dispatched USC without two starters, now on to the Wooden Classic this weekend vs UCLA to see who's the king of cali.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Last night's game was very exciting until the end of the first half when IU's depth started wearing down Carolina.  The First ten minutes of the second half Indiana certainly looked like the nation's best team, opening up a 30 point lead.  We finished the game with scrubs yet still handed Roy his third worst defeat.  We'll get our freshmen big men soon and will be a tough team to beat.

Michigan played well and beat a very good N.C. St. team.  Tonight Ohio State plays Duke and we'll see how good these teams are.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

The OSU/Duke game lived up to the billing and I think both will be highly seeded come March.  The Buckeyes played well but Duke hung around and caught 'em at the end.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

well Liz, not a good night for the Wildcats. They ran into a buzzsaw of home court advantage. Lots of distractions with little leprechaun running around, and a rowdy student section. KY is young and they will rebound, no pun intended, this is another part of their growing up process to learn how to win on the road in a hostile atmosphere. ND still had to make shots to pull it off, maybe they are a little better than we thought.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Irish are a solid team.  UK is not as strong this year and everybody wants a piece of 'em.  They'll be fine come March and if Noel considers staying an extra year then look for an unbeaten Kentucky team next year.
2013 recruits going there is one for the ages.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

I'm totally embarrassed to say I missed the entire game yikes I had in my mind all day it was a 9:30 ESPN game, I was so sure I never even checked the schedule! Crazy busy at work and trying to get everything cleaned off of a 6 year old computer to get a new one going & get wireless internet set up at house I got home from work a little before 7:00 and never turned on the tv. Got straight to work on computer, turned on tv around 9:15 & see Florida & Marquette??? Pick up schedule realize game is over and we lost??? I couldn't believe it I was so upset with myself because I have schedules everywhere, fridge, end table, car, desk, phone even one right beside computer I was working on! I hated I missed it sad

Cal's great at getting them ready by March so I hope everyone's right. Goodwin is now point guard, Harrow's "Mystery" illness still a mystery to me. From what I've heard there's still that "I'm going to be the guy"  like they were as high school players. If you saw the All Access UK specials on ESPN at the beginning of the season Cal kept telling players if they were going to try to do it all themselves and not play as a team they would be on the bench. From what I hear & read they're still learning this rule some are trying to do it all Also have heard they do not communicate well on the floor. It will be interesting to see where they're at in the Spring, really good no doubt, but good enough to go all the way? Time will tell!

Curby watched some of the IU/NC game now they are awesome! Caught bits & pieces of the 1st half as Jimmy had control of the remote & would flip over during commercials. I turned on the beginning of the 2nd half and fell asleep about 8 or 9 minutes in but IU was just killing them, I don't think NC had even scored a basket in the half yet!

Baylor today, on my way to work will have to miss 1st half hope they play better today smile

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Liz - I hope Archie can handle the point because Harrow is a head case.  There's a reason NC St wanted him gone and he's proving his reputation.  My estimation of Cal has risen greatly the past two years and he'll no doubt right the ship.  Florida looked great the other day and is a legit top five team.  When the Hoosiers get their three big men back they'll be even scarier, but don't see us winning road games against OSU and Michigan.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Some great games so far in the early season and some powerful teams (the usual suspects plus some surprising upstarts!). Praise all for college ball. I've lost interest in NFL with the sorry showing here (blacked out again this Sunday sad) and there's the hiatus until bowl games for the bragging rights. Aztecs selected for the Poinsettia Bowl vs BYU and that should pack the stands.

The Wooden Classic on ESPN tonight between our Aztecs and UCLA. This is the first time they've played in 21 years! Away game on a tough court will be a challenge.

Huge win for the Aztecs on national tv. Franklin is a stud. Big support by the fans, it looked like a home game.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

sorry I didn't get to see the game, congrats to SDSU. That is no easy win under any circumstances.
Bama gave #16 Cincinnati all they wanted at their place, Bearcats had to drain one at the buzzer to keep it from OT. I'm impressed with them, but they still have some things to work on. the freshman Pollard can turn us into a top twenty team if he will show more patience and make better decisions. So far he's underachieving.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Getting a freshman's head into the real game is the coach's challenge. Most of the highly recruited ones have great skills and lack the discipline to do well at a high level. Tempers get hot and they do stupid stuff. Pollard will come around Tres.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Can you say CHOKE? The longest winning home court winning streak done, Cal's first loss in Rupp and we dropped out of the top 25 as we should have. Hard to win when you only shoot 29%. The saddest part is a lot of them were close inside shots?? Cal has said all season we aren't very good yet and 2 losses in a row proves that. I think this loss has given the players a wake up call and we'll start to see that turn around, still early in the season. Can't wait to see what they'll be like Jan/Feb, only time will tell. Curby you're right about Harrow, he is a head case, and hopefully he gets his head together soon. I think Archie would rather be shooter?

I was wrong, yes, Goodwin belongs at the 2, but he needs to stop thinking he's the man on this team.  Wiltjer should've hit the weight room the past two years and added banger to his resume instead of thinking he's the next Larry Bird.  Cal shoulda talked Teague into staying an extra year to run this bunch.  Don't be surprised if that walk-on takes over the point and I doubt Harrow will be at Kentucky next year.  UK and UCLA are proving that the one and dones can be a risky venture.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

just as I start bragging on Bama they go back home and lose one to an inspired Dayton Flyer team. Bama was favored by 8 or 8 1/2. The vaunted defense did not look so good last night, very disappointed with the effort. On to the next one sister, that's all you can do.

I saw Alabama play last month and noticed two things: one their shot selection isn't disciplined and the other is they don't get back on defense.  I'd blame the coach for these issues.  No doubt they're very athlectic and have good shooters, but they need to play smarter.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

yep, they shoot too many 3 balls when not passing it around enough. They must have played some good D at Cincinnati, kept them under 60. You are right, too many times last night they just didn't get back on defense.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Reality came a knockin' in Indianapolis this past weekend and my Hoosiers came out on the losing end in overtime to a very scrappy Butler.  I read last week that their coach, Brad Stevens, is 26-2 in games where he had six days to prepare - make that 27 wins now.

I blame our weak schedule for the loss as the team looked flat and hope they learn from this.  It was rebounding that caused this and the shorter bulldogs just flat out hustled us.  Life goes on.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Aztecs had the same problem last season Curby. Let downs against lesser teams led to some scary situations. They got lucky a couple of times. You at least got your frosh big men off that suspension and that should bolster the bench as they start to get some floor time. Hoosiers still are looking very strong.
