Re: The NFL - National Football League

Hey, just for kicks why don't you guys make your picks with the Vegas spread and see how well you fair? I was offered a ticket to the Browns/Raiders game, but we're going to see rain of biblical proportions from Fri. thru Sun. and I don't enjoy sporting/music events in the rain. There's a Toys For Tots fundraiser with 8 local favorite bands goin' on that afternoon that is more appealing. I'll post the Vegas Line and see if any of you wanna run with the Big Dogs.

OK, there ya go! Just for kicks pretend this is a parlay card in Vegas and pick 3,4,5, or more picks. If you can hit 3/3 you're doin' very good, 4/4 you should BE in Vegas, 5/5 yer a damn genius!!! If anybody wants to shoot for the moon then go for as many picks as you like, it's not like any cash is ridin' on it. The Jets game is an absolute TEASE! Wonder how much money will be placed on Arizona? I threw in the O/U totals just for some reference, just pick the games as the O/U is always a seperate bet anyhow.

I'm goin' with SF, CLV, AZ, & NYG...........Happy hunting to those who wanna give it a shot!

Re: The NFL - National Football League

son and I do this every week with the line. what we have found is that the pro lines are much sharper than NCAA football, much tougher to have a good week. It's a bit much here, but I'll go with the flow if anyone wants to try it.
I like SF,CAR,BUFF,HOU,NYG, all favs to win. I'd take a 3-2 record and be real happy.

My buddy Matt told me if it rains we'd just ride out the weather in the Westside Club, not that I'm opposed to watching the game in a bar, but I can do that right here in town and pay half the price for better and way more of a selection of craft beer. I'm just a glutton for comfort and an old softy when it comes to donating to help kids have a Xmas.

Shred

Shred,
Marshall was asked about the two CB's from Seattle, who are about to be suspended for testing positive for PED's. In his response, he said everyone is trying to get an edge, and that his edge was being big, strong and fast (I'm paraphrasing). He then said he had heard of players using Viagra because it increases blood flow. Maybe these guys heard "improved performance" on the commercials and thought it meant on the football field.
Marshall never said HE used Viagra.

I understand the "point spread", but don't understand the application of over / under added in.  You just take or give points and pick a winner and then whether the scores added together are also over or under the total numbers given??? And those numbers are the over first, under second?..

I don't bet football, so I am sure trying that out could prove why...

Rocket, you don't need to pick a team for the over/under.
Very simply pick if the combined score is going to be over or under the number Vegas shows.

The way it works is pretty simple. You pick which team you think will beat the point spread, example: You pick SF to beat StL by 7 points(the spread). The Niners win by 6 points, you lose that bet. Say the Niners win by 7 points, you still lose since ties go to the house. Smart thing to do is bet games with a spread with a half point, no tie that way. The over/unders are bet separately. The SF/StL total is 40, you think they'll total more points than that take the over. You think they'll total less bet the under. Of course a tie is also a loser, but over/unders sometimes come with half points too. Then you have to consider who's injured, the weather, who plays better on the road, who's better @ home, the history between the teams playing, what players wife is pregnant or just filed for divorce, etc., etc., etc. Like I said it's pretty simple. Remember, sportsbooks aren't in business to make YOU rich!!!

Re: The NFL - National Football League

ATL covered the spread and the total was under 56 points, sorry Bill. I understand why you would pick MINN, but when betting the line I have to remind myself not to bet from the heart. I heard today Tyrelle Pryor may be suited up Sun. for the Raiders and Tres says Trent Richardson isn't a mudder, but the Browns are improving, the Raiders are floundering. I'll stick wif da Dawgs!

Well, it is going to be interesting in Raider Nation just to see who will be suiting up for the Raiders.
And I am not talking about the crowd this time, lol.

The big drama in Raider Nation is "Will Rolando McClain suit up"?
Need some Odds on this J Dawg.

I like Tyrelle.  He looks very promising.  Hopefully for the future.

I still like Carson.  He did a good job this year.  He tried as hard as he could to make this offense work. He's got a better rating from me, than all the Raider coaches and GM combined.

Have fun at your gig and putting smiles and cheer on the little ones smile

Bumbling by the Saints just before halftime really cost me that game...that and the pick Brees threw in the 4th, lol.

I picked Minnesota because the rivalry between those two teams is almost as heated as GB/Chi.
Typically they are hard fought, close games. I expect AP to have a big game.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

when you bet a game today and Vegas hits the line on the nose, called a "push", then most bookies will just charge you 10% of your wager amount. There are a very few out there that will call your bet a loser, even though it was a tie. This needs to be understood up front if that's what his policy is. I remember losing one on MNF back in the 70's because it was a tie with the line.

I suck at sports betting so I bet in the stock market...it's easier to understand.

Saints were horrible last night.  INT's for Breese, sorry performance from the O line, blah, blah.  Sean Peyton is working on getting approval to work on his contract extension.  Better days in 2013 for N.O.
