Topic: Columbus, GA Show

I'm a relatively new Joe fan and a first time poster on this site, but have been reading the various comments for awhile now.

Looking forward to making the three hour drive from Cumming, GA down to Columbus Friday afternoon to see Joe live.  It will be the first time I've ever seen him in concert, although I've watched the DVD's from Royal Albert Hall and Beacon at least a dozen times now.  I also have mp3 downloads for almost every CD he's recorded.

After reading the post about ticket prices under another topic, I just wanted to mention that I paid $287.00 each for two tickets that were for resale on a broker site and was grateful to get them, as the venus was sold out for the first few rows (We are in row 6).  I'm pretty positive I will not be disappointed!

If anyone else is going to the RiverCenter in Columbus on Friday, I'd be interested to hear from them, especially after the show when we can discuss the performance.

Re: Columbus, GA Show

Hello and welcome Lynda!  It is great to meet a fellow north Georgian on here.  My wife and I are traveling from Gainesville.  This will be our third show in a year and we are just as excited as if it was our first.  The first time we saw Joe we drove to Savannah and the second we got last minute tickets for Atlanta six days later.

We opted to stay overnight because we would rather chill with a late meal and drinks afterward than be getting back home after 2:00 in the morning. Remember the time difference as well,  Columbus is one hour behind so you'll gain an hour there.  We got tickets way back in March in the pre-sale and will be second row.  I'll yell Lynda when I get there,  see you there!

Again, welcome,
Mylan

You might want to double check the Columbus time. It does not get to central time until you cross the Alabama state line.

Enjoy the show!!!

Re: Columbus, GA Show

Yes I revised my post to reflect that I had it backwards. Thanks for the heads up. I know it changes very close to there but the reason I assumed it was in Columbus was that the box office was an hour behind when I tried to buy tickets.
Looks like I'll be asking the time when I roll into town!

Re: Columbus, GA Show

Hey Lynda, my wife, Sharon, and I will be at the Columbus show...I believe that we are in row 4...When I checked the River Center site earlier today they still were selling tickets in the last row of the balcony...It will be great to be at another Joe B. sellout performance...They make the evening even more fun...The River Center venue is great, you will truly enjoy it...There is a very nice Marriott right across the street if you are considering staying over night...This will be our 20th Joe show and we are as excited as ever...We saw him in Coumbus two years ago and in Atlanta last year...If this is your first show your are in for such a treat...My biggest thrill, outside of experiencing Joe and the band again, is seeing the look on the faces of all the Bonavirgins in the crowd...Have fun...Sit back, relax and enjoy one of the best rides that you have ever been on...

The Other Joe B.

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me...and, I'm feelin good

Re: Columbus, GA Show

I have been watching the main page tour date column getting smaller and smaller and Columbus getting closer and closer. Now we are next!!!

Re: Columbus, GA Show

Just a couple of hours to go until we leave for Columbus to see Joe.  I can't remember ever being this excited at attending a concert before! Hope everyone else traveling from the north Georgia area will enjoy the show.

Re: Columbus, GA Show

Sharon and I are in row D, seats 12 and 13 I believe...Today is useless...Just thinking about seeing Joe again tonight...We're coming in from Acworth...

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me...and, I'm feelin good

Re: Columbus, GA Show

Joe, hope you and Sharon have a great time!  I have my set-list in hand and waiting for my ride.  We're pretty close to where you'll be, Row F, seat 217 and 218.

Re: Columbus, GA Show

The show last night in Columbus, GA was in a word, F A B U L O U S!  Even though I kind of knew what to expect from watching the Beacon/Royal Albert Hall DVD's many times, nothing really prepares you for seeing Joe live and in person. My first impression after seeing him up till then on a flat TV screen, was that I was all of a sudden seeing him in 3D.  I vividly remember his purple shirt, purple sneakers and flowered socks that showed every time he tapped his foot to the music.  He even informed the audience that because it was Columbus on a Friday night, he was wearing his best socks for us.

I was absolutely fascinated by his flying fingers on the guitar strings during the acoustic set.  Just couldn't believe anybody's fingers could move that fast on one of the songs.  My son came with me to the show and I remember leaning over toward him after the second song and asked "is it going to THIS loud all the time?" and he said, Mom . . . just wait!!!

Being a total novice, not knowing one guitar from another, I loved that red guitar with the "singing" sound on "Look Over Yonders Wall", also the huge yellow one with the BLUES BOY guitar strap that we could read from the 6th row on "Wee Wee Hours"

Every song was wonderful, but Midnight Blues was especially great. At one point Tal threw his drumsticks from the back of the stage into the audience and one sailed right over my head.  I could see it clearly, but couldn't catch it.  When Joe threw his sunglasses to the crowd at the beginning of "Just Got Paid", they landed two people down from me and even though everybody was crawling around on the floor looking for them, none of us ever found them.  When Joe threw his slide, after "Ballad of John Henry", the tech at the side of the stage caught it with a baseball glove and Joe started laughing out loud at him.

Joe doesn't talk much during his performance, but I loved the story of downtown Columbus and the Turtle Man.  LOL

We were lucky enough to meet several other Joe B fans sitting near us, including one couple that said they had seen him more than 20 times since 2009, traveling to several different states to do it. The only drawback to the whole day, was that while we were eating dinner across the street from the auditorium, Joe came to the lobby to see the merchandise table and stayed to chat with a few people and sign autographs.  Meeting him would have made the whole experience absolutely perfect.

I Just wish there was another show I could make it to next week and the week after and the week after that. . .

Re: Columbus, GA Show

Great review Lynda! Here is my take on what would be the night of my life.

The third time really is the charm, my wife and I saw Joe twice last year and had decent seats but this time I got in on the pre-sale and scored second row, row B, seats 201 and 202 I believe. Now I knew we were close but I wasn't prepared as we were lead to our seats and discovered that, due to the stage layout, there were no seats in front of us and we could touch the stage! Even better was that the bongo drums were right in front of us and Joe's chair and mike stand were a little to the left. had it been my first show I probably would have fainted but I did manage to contain myself ( but just barely!).

Having previously seen Joe come out after the pounding "Two Minutes To Midnight" and wailing on electric guitar I had reservations about the acoustic set, but no more.
It was incredible!

I had reservations about Wee Wee Hours for some reason, but no more.
It was fantastic!

I also had reservations about Joe changing up the tempo on Sloe Gin and Look Over Yonders Wall, slowing them down and making them more bluesy, for lack of a better word, but no more. I wouldn't change a thing, I was completely blown away. I have sat before the master and he DELIVERED!

We were so close that when he stood at the front of the stage barely five feet separated us, we could count every lace on his purple Converse's, see his eyes behind those sunglasses, and see his jaw quiver as he concentrated on a brilliant solo.
During Tal's drum solo we could see Joe drinking a glass of red wine just offstage and also saw the tech catch the slide with the glove. As a bonus Tal shook hands with the front row, including mine, but yes meeting Joe would have made it perfect.  I didn't want it to end and like you, wish there was another show next week.

Re: Columbus, GA Show

I saw Joe for the sixth time in Columbus last night.  I had the privilege to get my Les Paul signed and a picture with him at the meet and greet before the show.  He is tighter than ever and seems to be more Cream sounding at times.  He is my favorite artist by far!

Re: Columbus, GA Show

Definitely a great show.  My second Joe show, but veteran of many many shows, including the ABB at the Beacon and Skynyrd at the Fox during the recording of the album "One More From The Road".  I can't keep Joe off the CD player or MP3 player!

Can't wait till next Friday's show in Tallahassee, more real good seats!

Re: Columbus, GA Show

WE were in row 3 and had a freaking blast. It was an awesome end to a crazy week. After being in divorce court on Thursday, (yeah it's finally freakin' over) it was an awesome way to spend a Friday evening. Saw Joe in Atlanta last year, so this was my 2nd live show, he always seems to out do himself. The only real surprise were those socks, the purple Chuck Taylors (which matched his shirt BTW), and the fact he played his 59 Les Paul on "Just Got Paid" instead of the Flying V. Great show, and hope to meet all of you Georgia Bonamassa fans one day.

Re: Columbus, GA Show

drove  down from Suwanee on the 29th and bought the last ticket in orchestra section. Lord I was blown away and got the set list after the show.
