Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

So is Kef Richards but it works for Rock n' Roll!

Could always deck my tele out with these. Stick a strat pickup in between them and I'd had a pretty good machine.

Would be the cheapest option too.

Those are pretty ugly pups but they do have a lot of range - they just need plain covers!

They are ugly but they sound good in that Tele. Jim Root tele is well spec'd too. That could be an option. I agree spiderman there ins't one guitar that can do it all. The closest is the Variax but that is ugly too.

Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

the strat style ones are

Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

Been playing strat's for almost 30 years and LP's for the last 8 years...

But if you put a gun to my head and have to chose one guitar that "do it all" , i go with a tele....

Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

Here's a demo of my Jimmie Vaughan Strat I did some time ago.
That's the one guitar for me that could kill Orks, and guide me through Middle Earth! No LP can do that - for me at least :-)

Nice playing dude, makes me think I should keep my strat and sell everything else. I'm never going to get one that does it all am I

Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

Not unless you just willing to settle.  I don't suggest it for dating, and I definitely wouldn't do it for guitars!

Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

Even if one guitar could rule them all, Joe would still own somewhere around 90, give or take.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

That's true for Joe :-)
But there are/were players like Rory Gallagher or Walter Trout that definitely have their "one to rule them all" guitars.

Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

After lots of internet searching and playing with my gear this weekend I know there isn't one guitar to rule them all. I am going to keep my PRS DGT, Strat and Tele and admit defeat. 3 guitars to rule them all it is then.

Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

My Suhr set neck Modern.  Alder body w/ maple cap, roasted maple neck, rosewood FB, jumbo SS frets, wilkinson-style trem and HSH with super clear, articulate pickups (Suhr SSV, ML, SSH+).  It does everything, and does everything really well.

Now see the guthrie govan model was on my list and you've just thrown a spanner in the works. I would love to have one go to guitar but I don't think it's happening. The grissom gets me close but I miss the strat in between sounds

A friend of mine has a GG sig (the first one - mahogany/maple cap, rw fb), and it is indeed awesome!

Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

I like the idea of Line 6 Variax, but lots electronics can lead to some kind of failure.
I REALLY like the idea of a Warmoth body and neck with Line6 guts...

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Perhaps I should keep my grissom and get a variax for everything else, tele/strat/gretsch sounds as well as for alternate tunings.

Re: 1 Guitar to rule them all?

for me it would be;

Ernie Ball/Music Man John Petrucci, Ball Family Reserve signature model

why?  because to me this guitar has it all.

1.  it's built like a tank
2.  it's stunningly beautiful
3.  has an extremely comfortable and fast neck
4.  it's perfectly balanced and comfortable to play
5.  it has top notch locking tuners...easy string changes and feel great when tuning.
6.  it sounds superb.....the pickups are fantastic.  with the bridge pickup you can do classic rock and metal easily and some edgier blues.  the pickup is smooth while providing alot of gain.  the neck pickup is very reminiscent of the classic les paul tone we all love.  the middle position split the coils and you can get a close strat sound.
6.  it has the piezo system in it as well and this opens the door to some of the most amazing pure clean tones you will ever imagine obtaining as well as being able to dang near simulate an acoustic guitar if running thru the proper setup.

i own a ton of guitars and none of them possess the versatility, playability and visual appeal all wrapped up in such a high level on one guitar. period.  and i'm not a "shredder".....i'm just a regular rock dude that bought this guitar because of the things mentioned above....not because i play or even attempt to play like petrucci.

Could be a rarity now that Guthrie has left Suhr.

Rumours are of a GG hookup with Charvel.  He has said he's working on a few things with them ...

I did notice a charvel when he was playing with his trio in a recent youtube vid.
