Topic: Silly gift I gave Joe: GOLDIE FLANGER
Howdy Gang,
If you recall, earlier this year at Portland, ME show at Merrill Auditorium....during performance of "Woke Up Dreaming" Joe's Alaverez Yairi was giving him some tuning issues. Beckoned for replacement and then walked to the edge of the stage and handed me the guitar and said, "for the kid", and the kid was my 14 year old nephew. Talk about blown away.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFWhRbIhpS0 <-- video from the gig.....very cool that it was captured.
I fixed the guitar for 17.95, ordered a new set of bridge pins.....problem fixed......
Couple months goes by, my nephew presents the guitar to me on my 43rd birthday as a gift, stating, "this really belongs with you".......told him it's yours, you keep it, just promise me if ever go to sell, offer it to me first, thanks me, but says really......i want you to have this guitar. How generous!!!!! We spend alot of time together, so still working on ways of thanking him for generosity......but also want to thank Joe...
Hmmmmm, since I don't have any '59 Bursts laying around collecting dusts, and he seems to be all set in amp land....what do you do to show your appreciation.....well pretty simple, make him a GOLDIE FLANGER pedal, lol.....
I have been a fan since Bloodline days, remember buying the Hot Licks VHS ( yes, vhs ) and fallling in love with that gold sparkle strat......through the trio years that guitar became more iconic for me.......have built ( 2 ) strat copies, a tele version and right now working on an Ernie Ball / Music Man Steve Morse version....yes, I have an issue, lol.....
So, it made perfect sense to GOLDIE-DIZE a couple MXR Micro Flangers, one for Joe and one for me, lol.......

Presented the pedal ( and a couple custom engraved neck plates ) at meet and greet last night, and got a chuckle from Joe....so was pleased he saw the humor in my gesture......just a stock MXR Micro Flanger that has been tweaked "comestically".
Just a small way of saying thank you for the years of inspiration......we sat front row, stage left last night, and he played 10 feet in front of us alot last night....so have tons of new licks to work on, nice!!! And finally, thanks for the guitar.....treasured piece in the guitar collection.......would be like Clapton giving you one of his personal strats.....
Life is good, and sometimes even better then good....
