Topic: NGD: Hi Les Paul, I am back!

So, I have been in the mood to shake things.  I have had a love/hate with LP's for a long time with the usual culprits being to blame; weight, fret access, neck shape... LP's have come and gone.  So I took two guitars to GC yesterday, after my failure to trade or sell them on craigs.  They were collecting dust, and I am not a collector.  I had checked their website and I knew what was available even for the used stuff.  I saw this gorgeous (to me) 2010 LP Traditional Pro.  Anyhow, went to the store, got the trade thing going.  I set out to play several guitars, and out of all the ones, including high-priced guits, I kept going back to this one.  Anyhow, I generally don't post gear pics, but here she is.  Her name is Francine.  It did not hurt that I also ended up with an extra PUP, as the original owner had replaced the bridge BB3 witha  57 Classic, and also some extra cash to take the lady out to a fancy dinner, as she deserved it for waiting patiently the two hours.

Nice... big_smile

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: NGD: Hi Les Paul, I am back!

I have one just like that in the Tobacco burst.  Its honestly my favorite gigging guitar right now.  Its got enough power to play the heavy stuff like my SG does, but something either with the maple top or the pickups makes it brighten up as I'm turning my volume down so it cleans up nicely too and never gets too muddy like my SG.  The SG is a great guitar too and has the power I want, but it doesn't sound great when turned down like the Traditional Pro.  I'm sure you'll be in love with this one more every time you gig out with it!

Yeah, the coil tap is an nice feature to have.  I am loving it.  It is just right.  A bigsby may be in its future...

Re: NGD: Hi Les Paul, I am back!

Let me suggest this to you if you go with the bigsby  http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_ta … by_B7.html This is an adapter that solves a lot of problems like how do you ground the guitar?  Plus this mounts to existing holes and anything metal that sits on the body has a felt pad to protect the wood on the guitar.  Wish I had one of these before I started drilling on my old Classic.  I had it installed and was going to take it off to work on a way to ground the strings.  Screw head broke clean off in the top of my Classic.  I had to drill the hole out larger then it had to be to get the screw out and then plug the hole.  I bought Stainless Steel wood screws after that.  Could have avoided the whole thing if I had just put the screw in some candle wax first.  This Adapter makes installs so easy nothing to even line up.  I'd do this and not think twice about it!

AD3THREE, yeah the vibramate is definitely the route to go with!!  Yeah this is the first non-ebay LP i have owned.  She will be around a long time for sure, as I really had a chance to play her before buying.  I am happy!

Yeah there was a Tobacco Burst that I played at the store as well.  This one just sounded a bit "chalkier" or "dry" acoustically, which is good in my opinion.  But the bridge PUP was replaced with a 57 classic, and at least in this guitar, i liked it better than the BB3.

Re: NGD: Hi Les Paul, I am back!

I am just wondering why the original owner replaced the bridge PUP with a 57 classic plus, instead of keeping the BB3.  Any thoughts?  I never played a Burstbucker so, but it seems spec wise, there is not a whole heck of a lot of difference as both are supposed "PAF" type with a bit of extra wind.  That BB3 will likely end up in my 76 Electra Omega, which has a DiMarzio Virtual PAF in it.

Re: NGD: Hi Les Paul, I am back!

BB3 production model is wax potted, custom shop isn't... that said the 57' classic plus is wax potted as well.  But I'm still thinking the BB3 has more output then the C+.  Personally I think the pickups are ok in my Traditional pro (which is the only 100% stock guitar in my collection at the moment) I think they sound better then some of my other guitars in terms of cleaning up when I turn the volume pot down and the push pull pots really help me pull off country wwwwannng in my country rock band I'm in.  I wish the had a little more balls to honest, they are fairly bright sounding.  I'm hoping my EVH Frankie pickup in my Strat devastates my other guitars.

Re: NGD: Hi Les Paul, I am back!

I also had a love hate thing going on with my Les Paul and Les Paul type guitars until I bought my Traditional LP. Yours is a beauty, enjoy playing it for a long time. I promiss you that all your other guitars will take a long rest now ;-)
