Topic: Stripped Down Acoustic

I'm a big lover of unplugged versions of great songs and was hoping we could get some of everyone's faves.  I'll start it off with Damn Yankees' Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades doing an acoustic version of "High Enough".  I just have a soft spot for this song.

Re: Stripped Down Acoustic

Hard to have a "soft spot" for an all too short-lived supergroup that rocked like Damn Yankees, but I'm with you, on that pick.

This is another of those threads where too "damn" much comes to mind, when it comes to amazing "unplugged" acoustic jams.  But I'll throw this one out there, even if the quality of the youtube post isn't so hot.

And I don't think this quite qualifies as "stripped down"...even if it is acoustic.  SRV rips it up.  Can you say shred three tunes on an acoustic guitar?  Yes, you can...(man I miss him):

And since so much does come to mind, I'll add another that's worth a listen.  Check this out.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Really liked the second vid - love that song.  Hate to say this, but I thought Stevie fell a little short on that 12 string.  Only "Pride and Joy " sounded good to my ears.  In his lifetime he only released one acoustic song, Doyle Bramhall Sr.'s "Life By the Drop".  On electric only Jimi played better.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Endangered Species. For the most part the electric tunes work well unplugged, but the best tracks are the originals they wrote for this album, Good Luck Bad Luck and Hillbilly Blues.

Great video Pete!  Thanks buddy.  That boy packs so much emotion in his vocals.  I think I'll look into him further.

Ah! - Starkers In Tokyo - not an easy or affordable album to find these days. Think I'm right, it was one of few times Coverdale actually got Adrian Vandenberg playing on an authorised Whitesnake recording even though he'd been in the band for several years and had co-writing credits. Think he missed becasue of contracts on one and a wrist injury on the other. he did play studio on the Restless Heart album, prior to Starkers. Adje would be worth including in Curby's Guitarist thread but these days he's more into painting than playing though there was rumour of an album this year.

It brings to mind the glut of MTV "Unplugged" albums that bands seemed to rush to do about 20 years ago. Think I still have the 5 Man Acoustic Jam that Tesla did; as well as ones by Rod Stewart (+Ronnie Wood) and The Pretenders; Isle Of View. Think I'll also have to dig out the Page & Plant effort; No Quarter.

Re: Stripped Down Acoustic

Came across this one and thought it stunning.  Mark King of Level 42 doing an acoustic version of "Something About You".  My brother told me about them and Tears For Fears around the same time.  I loved the video to the original, so, so Eighties.  This re-working is definitely more soulful.

Re: Stripped Down Acoustic

Caught Marcus Bonfanti over the week-end doing a full solo show; just one man, an acoustic guitar and that big voice of his; absolute stormer of a show. I'll do a review later and see if I can find any YouTube clips as I know a couple of folk were recording.

Would like to hear him.  Any word on a new record?
