Ever since my neighbor turned me on to Blues Deluxe 3 yrs. ago I haven't heard anything I don't like. All you have to do is pick up a guitar and it's all good in J Dawgs opinion. Hell I even enjoy the sound checks I've had the privelege to sit in on. That's why listing favorites is futile for me, I may play some over and over more than others on any given day, but that's the extent of my favoritism. Glad to have a new batch of songs to add to the library, and yes they're all favorites including India. Any of you out there with more than one child knows how irrelevant the word favorite is.

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

OK, this is worth giving up my 666 status. I agree with the idea of "favorites" being misleading. Bill is right. This recording has a killer set list. Again I think we are comparing which songs "get to us" the most. Every song is a gem, including India. I couldn't stop thinking this would be a great soundtrack....This is truly an all inclusive CD. Thanks Joe!!!! Cathy

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

I've waited to post my favorite song until I had time to digest the entire album, but it seems the more I listen, the more difficult it is to decide.  I've listened to the cd about 10 or 11 times now and I can't decide.  Every song is so wonderful and unique.

At first, there were a couple of songs I wasn't in love with, but after listening a few more times, I really love them all so I guess I still don't have a favorite and chances are, I never will.

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

I have a question about Another Kind Of Love... it says here:

http://www.jbonamassa.com/JB_Sloe%20Gin_One%20Sheet.jpg

that it's an original...  but was it not a John Mayall & Peter Green track? I have heard a lot of Peter Green influence on You & Me and some tracks off the new album, so it would make sense...

Obviously the writer of the promo didn't know that and it slipped by whoever proofed it. Also you will notice a different track order as well. This was probably sent out to buyers in advance to convince retailers to stock the album. The deadlines are well in advance to actuall release dates so mistakes happen.

I happen to have the A Hard Road album that song is on. Unrecognizable from the original except for the lyrics.

Ball Peen Hammer, Another Kind of Love, Dirt in My Pocket, Richmond, India. I see India at the end of a few people's lists. I actually like that song better than 6 other ones on the CD.

After listening to the CD a few more times, my preferences have changed. I actually like the songs with the guitar solos in them: Sloe Gin, Another Kind of Love, Black Night, better than the other songs. Also, I would have to put India second to last now with Around the Bend being last. It's funny because I actually liked the previous version of Around the Bend better than 3 other songs off the Had to Cry Today CD.

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

You know, if you listen to "Seagull" and then "India", when Joe starts strumming the faster movement part of India, it kind of seems like it could've been a very trippy / lovely outro for "Seagull"... No?!  Maybe Joe could try it live that way...No?! Regardless, I'd like to hear "India" live.  Sloe Gin is so good, even the string noise on this studio version of India is very cool and not out of place to me, it goes well with alll the percussion...

It reminds me of Ravi Shankar a little. Loved his performance at Monterey Pop. So did Hendrix. smile

Rocket, On the advance marketing sheet it has India following Seagull. I also think there is some forshadowing of the India sound in the bridge of Dirt in my Pocket.

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

On first listen to India, it had me thinking of former Beatle, George Harrison RIP, which goes back to Ravi Shankar.  Cool song, great album...still absorbing it, can't do favorites yet!!  Joe, even though you got the blues bad, your music makes me happy!!! smile

I love them all, including India!  Some of my favorites are Another Kind of Love, Ball Peen Hammer, Black Night, One of These Days, Seagull, and on and on and on.......I am seeing a pattern here!  I am drawn to the songs with the slide guitar! I just love it! Down by the River and Burning Hell are still played daily on the way to work.....It is a long drive (almost an hour!) smile

Have fun and crank up the new CD! smile

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

I like India, too ... Can´t make a list of favorite Songs cause I love them all - but Seagull got me right away, and Slow Gin, and Ball Peen Hammer, and Around the Bend and .........;)

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

We are in agreement! The nah nah nahs on Seagull also seem to slighty backwards reflect from "Tamp 'em Up Solid" from "You & Me" to me...

From my "Slow Gin Fast Review" topic comment:
I guess I could add that this is Joe's absolute finest slide work in my opinion (ok, I better add so far)!!!  There's quite a bit of it too!

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

I am going to have to agree with the group that can't pick a true favorite from the CD, it's all a nother fine effort from Joe and Co. once again.....Hmmmmmmm...are we going to hear a full version of "One of These Days" on this leg of the tour ? I sure hope so, I haven't heard that song live since I heard  Alvin Lee and Ten Year's After play it many moon's ago !!!!!!!!!!!!  Can't wait to hear "Sloe Gin" live too !  Larry G
Hey Rocket, you coming to the Utica show ????  We'll be in the RV again !

Re: Favorite Songs off Sloe Gin?

Well I finally got it today!  Didn't get to give it my full attention being in the car with the kids but from my first listen my favorite right now is Seagull.  Hopefully later on tonight I can give it another listen in peace and quiet.  wink

Sloe Gin and Another Kind Of Love were in the setlist this summer. Haven't heard if there may be changes or additions on the upcoming fall tour, but we'll soon find out.
