Topic: Columbus review

All in all, what seems to be a nice review of JB's show...although there is one sentence that most fans will object to:

"Rock ON & Keep the Faith"

Re: Columbus review

Seems like a style thing. He gave Mozart grief so a sly slap at Joe is on point for his schtick. I won't parse it. It's a good review by an impressed writer needing to toss in a bit of negativity for form and balance, just so the reader sees he stopped short of some embarrassing gushing (and barely that). big_smile

Re: Columbus review

I was there.

Ehhhh, I don't care for these kinds of reviews.  I feel like as the reader I've been slapped right, then left, then right...  when reviewers write about a performance "Yeah, it was good, BUT..."  or "It was terrible, BUT I loved it."  Kinda like saying "So congratulations, you don't beat your wife any more."

I need some Joe...NOW.
Joe = Joy

Re: Columbus review

it's a terrible review imo, lots wrong with it from comparing him to Page and Betts, to throwing in the Vegas thing. He is miles above Page in my book, so much more versatile and so much more SOUL than anyone I listen to presently. I won't even discuss the comparison to Betts or Duane, regardless of what song he is talking about. I agree with Rick, he made sure he didn't shout and raise the touchdown sign, that's just how some of them hedge and roll on to the next review.

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Re: Columbus review

Didnt really care for the review - Looks like "The Other Paper" is very hard up for a writer in my opinion!

Re: Columbus review

For the most part, it was positive in a round about way.

I think the line it was kind of vegasy is funny.  I actually laughed out loud.  As one who has gone to Vegas every year for the past 12 years, I know what lounge singers  sound like. And Joe isn't one of them.

Oh well. at least he put Joe's name in the review.

Re: Columbus review

Journalist with views of their own importance? Not good.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Columbus review

aw they did the same thing to Joe in the Syracuse NY review last year.
We all know Joe has a heart and he pours it into each song every time.

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)

I'm a huge ABB fan, but I've never heard Joe compared to Duane or Dickie. Both great players, but not a connection I'd make. I just figured he was looking for great guitar players to give the readers an idea of Joe's skills.
I just cannot understand this "lack of soul" argument. It's been said a number of times and I'm getting the impression that some reviewers have heard this before they've ever seen Joe and have made their minds up before walking into the show.
My wife and I have a joke between us, usually when we're listening to the solo from Mountain Time, The Great Flood, Sloe Gin, etc., one of says "it's too bad Joe doesn't play with any feeling".
That whole soulless thing is preposterous.

"Rock ON & Keep the Faith"

Re: Columbus review

I dont get the review thing either. Its not a thumbs down but I also agree about the souless thing.Joe puts his heart and soul int o his performances. The Vegas referance?Maybe he gets that from Joes suit?I dot put a whole lot of stock in it.Sounds like this is a hit and run review ,trying to just take a test sample and write someting and make an effort to be "witty"Probably hasnt listen to any bluesy music since Duane Allman passed.

John Petric is a frustrated musician, you can just tell.  He never likes ANYONE.  And he's a dick.

I say the same thing when I hear Joe play Midnight Blues, No soul at all LOL.  I am sure by now Joe is used to negative comments but these are just laughable
