Topic: Say It Ain't So Hostess

The company filed bankruptcy yesterday and within two weeks my precious Ding Dongs, Ho Ho's, Twinkies and especially my pink Snowballs will be no more.  My Mom, who seemed to have owned stock in the company by the number of Twinkies she consumed, got me addicted at a very early age.  I sure hope the government bails Hostess out of this fiasco, or I'll be on Dr. Drew!

Re: Say It Ain't So Hostess

Well add me as the No. 2 guest on Dr. Drew, right after you Curby.

I forgot about my Pink Snowballs.  Oh how I love those.  I use to eat those everyday with a glass of milk.  And I am the one who would take all the Pink covering off first, and then munch down on the chocolate cake with the fattening creme inside.  I couldn't believe the news story when I saw this.

Hostess is an American Icon.  How can I drink my healthy milk now without my unhealthy, fattening hydrogenated creme filling, the most delectable food that was ever made?

Re: Say It Ain't So Hostess

Let's not give up all hope. Sad that the union forced them to the wall instead of giving a little.  The Co. will sell off the licensed products and others will take up the slack. There was a run on them here as in other places. Mmmmmm... Snowballs.

In an awful coincidence, this comes right on the heels of two states legalizing marijuana.

OH MY GOD!!!!!  Rioting in the streets....anarchy!

Of course on a positive note maybe this development will prolong a few billion lives, but the stoners will be cleaning out all the Slim Jims at Stop & Robs across Amerika.

That's too funny......

I haven't had a twinkie or any other hostess treat in years so I won't be having the panic that lot's of people seem to be having, but I was know to consume lot's of Zingers in my teenage years.

If Hostess doesn't pull a rabbit out of the hat to save the twinkies et al, I am sure some known baking company will buy the rights and save any rioting in the streets.

Re: Say It Ain't So Hostess

There's plenty of blame to go around on both the labor and management end of this mess.  Latest I heard this morning a Mexican billionaire is interested in the brand and could manufacture the product in Mexico and export to existing outlets.  Twinkie may have another life after all

Just so ya know, it is pronounced BEEMBOW, so no snide reflections on the name Bimbo. (the Mexican Bakery conglomerate).
Certainly not funny for the unemployed watching their jobs heading south, but the funniest thing I've seen on it was a cartoon  referenced to the Mayan calendar and the end of the world with a Twinkie hieroglyph in the middle. wink

Re: Say It Ain't So Hostess

I have no doubt that the products will live on. Like Bill said, stoners need these snack foods. LOL  However, it always galls me when executives get bonuses for failing at their jobs. Two sides to every dispute wink    Cathy

Re: Say It Ain't So Hostess

Never liked the Twinkies, was more of a cupcake man, myself.

Although, my all-time favorite was the Big Wheel, which was also known by a couple of other names, Ding Dongs or... King Dons.

That last one REALLY had a nice ring to it. smile

Rick, whatever your news source, I'm sorry you fell for this line. The union gave more than a little during the last eight years -- the workers have taken major cuts in pay and benefits. They've never had a raise during that time. At some point, enough is enough, and I'm glad that at least some news outlets have called out management on their true intentions (and their bonuses).

Was talking with the Brother-In-Law about this yesterday and sadly this is the acceptable management strategy right down to the bonuses.  Arrogance and the Marie Antoinette credo of  "let them eat cake".
